A Week Of Glittering Prizes

The week of March 24th was Visit England catch up time, where we saw increased awards, with a good scattering of Gold Awards and 5 Stars. Here are a selection of super romantic retreats.

No1 & No2 Rose Cottages - Sleeps 2

These two popular romantic retreats have both been upgraded by owners John and Lorraine. The combination of quality, comfort and the addition of a dressing room and a new bathroom with whirlpool bath along with a warm welcome including home baking has seen No1 Rose achieve a Visit England 5 Star rating.

We re-shot the rooms last week and the brownies baked by Lorraine are the best I have ever had - Yum.

For full details see No1 Rose Cottage Page

No2 Rose has also seen much reburshishment over the past year, with an extension now offering their guests a super new bathroom upstairs and downstairs, off the kitchen, a new utility and laundry room. All of this work, along with refreshing the decor and those wonderful brownies or cakes, have resulted in a top award of VE 5 Star Gold.

Over the first year it prooved very popular with guests, but Brian and Rosemary were not ones to rest on their laurals, where improvements over the year have resulted in the Visit England inspector up grading the rating to the top award of 5 Star Gold - Perfect.

Barrow Hollin - Sleeps 6

Barrow Hollin has been part of our collection for many years, enjoyed by guests for its atmosphere and beautiful location. Garden House - Sleeps 2 Plus 2

Owners Angela & Craig have beavered away making improvements to this little cottage. The results have cumlinated in a cosy retreat set in the heart of the Lake District a stone throw from Coniston Water.

Force Mill Barn - Sleeps 4

When owner Nicola acquired Force Mill she wanted to put her own mark on the property. A combination of interior dressing and the opening of the second bedroom, make it a super retreat set on the edges of the Gizedale Forest.

Two Walks For Spring

Ullswater Western Shores

The author and journalist Hunter Davies wrote, if you only do one walk in the Lakes, then walk the east shore and fells of Ullswater - advice I took when I first started coming here and am eternally grateful for those few words of wisdom.

This walk can be done either south to north or the other way around. Explored from the southern end of the lake, dominated by Place Fell, St Sunday Cragg, Fairfield and Helvellyn, you take the path from Glenridding over to the east side of the water. Your easy to follow route takes you all the way to Sandwick and onto Howtown. You will be able to ramble all day with a magnificent view always in sight. For the return journey board the steamboat from Howtown to Glenridding - do check last sailing.

Rydal Water To Grasmere

This is the perfect walk, taking in two lakes along with some decent, but not too steep fell. Leave Ambleside on the A591 heading towards Grasmere. If you can, turn left over the little Pelter Bridge and park up on your right - If not, carry on to White Moss where there is plenty of parking. At best you will need an OS map to take you around the water. On the western side, you can take the track above the lake where the views of the mountain range are wonderful. On the way you will discover two caves. Of the two, the largest is more accessible with a pool at its entrance. Carrying on, you come to the head of Rydal where you will see Grasmere in the near distance.

About Us

Clare & John Serginson

During our early careers in the advertising industry, based in London, we loved coming to the Lake District to refresh and recharge. The contrast between the buzz of London and the serenity and sheer majestic beauty of The Lakes and mountains was a real tonic, with long walks during the day, simply taking in the landscape, returning to a cosy cottage or hotel for the evening.

In 1993 we decided to move to the Lake District for a whole new life, with an idea of  creating our own cottage agency, one different from others, one that would offer visitors an exceptional experience, where quality not numbers mattered.

We hoped our skills, John a still life photographer and Clare an art buyer, would benefit home owners and holidaymakers, presenting the properties in an exciting manner, along with lots of information about the area, its attractions and just why, like us, once visited you to will fall in love with this unique part of England.
