Holidays in Lake Windermere

Self-catering holiday accommodation in Lake Windermere

Lake Windermere is the largest natural lake in the Lakelands and is a long ribbon of water that snakes across the land for approximately 10 miles. At almost a mile wide it is a mecca for holidaymakers who seek water-based pastimes such as sailing, rowing, swimming, wind surfing and fishing at it shores.

The town of Windermere does not have the lakeside access that you might expect and is twenty minutes’ walk from the nearest point on the shore. It is the Bowness-on-Windermere where you can board boat tours and enter the water. There are a number of private islands along the route, but the public has access to much of the lake.

Our Lake Windermere cottages are close enough to the water to enjoy walking and sailing, but you can also discover the countryside further afield. In our guide to Lake Windermere, you’ll find even more things to see and do around this beautiful lake.
