Whilst staying in one of our Lake District cottages you may like to dip into a few of our towns and villages for a bit of shopping, café culture and maybe sample the varied cultural and historic side of Cumbria. Throughout the region there are many annual events, none quite so vibrant as the Cartmel Races.

If you haven't been racing before, then Cartmel is a great place to first experience. Against the backdrop of the beautiful English Lake District, the course at Cartmel is a sharp and narrow left handed oval. The difference from other courses is that it is the longest in the country at just over four furlongs.
The steeplechase
The steeplechase course has six fences; these include an open ditch and a water jump. The narrow track, sharp nature of the bends, stiff fences and undulating contours make it difficult to win from off the pace. The course is ideally suited to front running course specialists.
Family Fun
With a choice of Bank Holidays, weekend and evening fixtures, Cartmel has something to suit everyone and a memorable day out is guaranteed. Look no further than Cartmel's family fun fixtures held over May Bank Holiday weekends. In addition to the racing there is also a huge fairground which runs all day providing entertainment for all ages. At the time of writing, all children 16 and under are admitted FREE!
