No 1 Rose Cottage Guest Reviews

This is our third visit to the Lake District. We had a huge list of properties to choose from but we chose Lorraine & John's cottage for the authenticity of this truly British cosy countryside cottage. One the day we arrived, Lorraine welcomed us with a warm smile and a lovely hamper was waiting for us as well as slices of her own baked lemon cake. The content of the hamper and the slices of cake were much appreciated by the log fire. We felt at home straightaway in this immaculate, well decorated cottage. Furthermore, my husband had been sick for the last leg of the journey and Lorraine kindly provided us with some food. What else more can we say … We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage and we will definitely recommend this place to our friends. During our stay, among other things, we had dinner at the local pub, the White Hart, and we can recommend the hake fillet and gammon steak dishes. The portions were not only huge but very tasty. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. We also recommend going to the Old Hall Farm for a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake. We also went to the Swan Hotel & Spa at Newby Bridge for a full body massage and a facial treatment. You can enjoy their leisure facilities (sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, pool) if you have any treatments done. We would certainly recommend the place if you want to pamper yourself. It will be money well spent. We wish Lorraine and John all the best. We shall never forget our third visit to the Lake District in this exquisite Rose Cottage.

We stayed for a week at the beginning of June and everything was fine and as advertised, normally I would not mention the owners as many people do as I pay a fair amount to stay in the cottages we rent and and feel no need to thank them for the privilege of taking my cash as I view it as a business transaction, what made this couple outstanding was their genuine friendliness and desire to help. The cottage was neat tidy and well equipped and everything worked, the brownies were a nice touch and I would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a nice cosy cottage for two.

The cottage is in a lovely location, a quiet village roughly 15 minutes drive into Ulverston (for the nearest big supermarket etc) and the local village has a lovely pub 3 minutes walk away with plenty of good food and drinks on offer. The surrounding lowlands are beautiful, lots of greenery and the views are superb from the cottage! The cottage is meticulously decorated, superbly presented on arrival and perfectly clean. We were greeted with a little welcome hamper with cake and biscuits - a really nice surprise after the journey up. The heating system is great (wall-mounted electric heaters) and the log fire is a superb feature! Really nice to return to at the end of a day out! The quality of fittings and furnishings is excellent, better than than my own home in many cases and this all made it a real pleasure to stay in! We could not fault it in any way! Having Sky+ TV was also a bonus so that we could record and catch-up on our favourite shows after days out exploring! John the owner is a lovely chap - we had a quick catch-up with him when we arrived. Very nice and approachable if you need anything - he's always willing to help out!
All in all a lovely cottage, superb quiet-yet-accessible location and a real pleasure to stay in! Please pass on our thanks to John and Lorraine for letting us stay in their lovely house.
Best regards,

We have had a wonderful stay - beautiful cottage and views! Enjoyed the peace and quiet, an ideal base to go out exploring. Loved the log burner, the cosy feel and the welcome hamper - thank you for the yummy chocolate brownies! We even managed to see the lunar eclipse in the clear sky's here. We have loved staying here and wish we could stay longer - thank you.

Another lovely week in Rose Cottage. Weather was glorious, so was the hospitality. Can't wait to come back in November. Rose Cottage is truly a 'Special Place'. Thanks for everything - every time.

Wow! Loved the new Ralph Lauren fabrics and leather sofa. The refurbished bedroom looks very chic, the French bed fantastic.
We didn't think you could better what was there already but we were wrong. Well done - we will be back later on in the year.
