Owners Lorraine and John offer couples one of the finest and most popular Lake District Cottages, created especially for those special romantic breaks and holidays. Recently refurbished the cottage now benefits from a new kitchen, bathroom and the thoughtful addition of a dressing room.

Imagination and great flair for design have culminated in a holiday home that places No1 Rose among the best in the Lakes, as recognized by its Visit England 5 Star award and the many guest comments. The welcome is warm, with fresh home baked cakes for guest's arrival.

Set on the edge of Bouth, this 17C cottage is a true retreat, where you will find peace in the surrounding countryside, relax in the garden and enjoy the splendid ambience of the cottage. The village of Bouth is quiet and noted for one of Cumbria's best pubs, The White Hart.

The location makes for easy exploration of the lakes, forest, fells and mountain to the north, and to the south the rolling meadows of the peninsulas and the south lakes coast.

The Living Spaces

From the sunny garden you enter into the sitting-dining room. The furnishings and decor ooze with charm, offering a cosy and romantic room to snuggle up after a day walking the fells. Attention to detail is evident, with the dressing and lighting setting just the right mood. A plump leather sofa is perfect to kick back in, read a good book or take in a movie and, come winter months the roaring log burner adds atmosphere and warmth.

The burnished oak table demands a fine meal, which you can prepare in the excellent fully fitted kitchen. Outside is a small utility room with laundry facilities.

Beds & Baths

The bathroom is on the ground floor and is complete with a relaxing spa bath, overhead shower and washbasin. The WC is separate, and upstairs.

The double bedroom, with the added luxury of a separate dressing room, is comfortable and beautifully furnished with a King size French bed, crisp linen and where the view of the garden fills the window.

Garden Spaces

The garden overlooks the meadow and far woodland where with the sun shining is perfect to relax or barbecue.

In Summary - Each little detail about No1 Rose Cottage is superb, making this one of the finest cottages in the Lake District, very much for adults who may come and enjoy romantic, relaxed holidays in style and great comfort and well deserving of the Visit England 5 Star award.

Out & About

Bouth lies just four miles to the west of Lake Windermere, at the southern end of the Rusland Valley. Popular with visitors for a peaceful setting among low fell, it is away from the busy crowds, offering pretty local walks and cycle rides, where you can explore the country lanes and visit the deer park.

A very short walk from the cottage is the excellent White Hart Inn. Warmly hosted by Nigel Barton, he offers one of the finest cellars of local ales along with robust pub grub, both served up by the glow of roaring log fires under a canopy of blackened oak beams.

Just to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at no 1 Rose Cottage. The house was well furnished and looked after and we enjoyed a very comfortable stay. There was lots to do in the immediate area, despite some pretty inclement weather, and Coniston was just a short drive away.

This is our third visit to the Lake District. We had a huge list of properties to choose frombut we chose Lorraine & John's cottage for the authenticity of this truly British cosycountryside cottage. One the day we arrived, Lorraine welcomed us with a warm smile and a lovely hamperwas waiting for us as well as slices of her own baked lemon cake. ThRead moree content of thehamper and the slices of cake were much appreciated by the log fire. We felt at home straightaway in this immaculate, well decorated cottage. Furthermore,my husband had been sick for the last leg of the journey and Lorraine kindly provided uswith some food. What else more can we say We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage and we will definitely recommendthis place to our friends. During our stay, among other things, we had dinner at the local pub, the White Hart, andwe can recommend the hake fillet and gammon steak dishes. The portions were not onlyhuge but very tasty. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. We also recommendgoing to the Old Hall Farm for a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake. We also wentto the Swan Hotel & Spa at Newby Bridge for a full body massage and a facial treatment. You can enjoy their leisure facilities (sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, pool) if you have anytreatments done. We would certainly recommend the place if you want to pamperyourself. It will be money well spent. We wish Lorraine and John all the best. We shall never forget our third visit to the Lake District in this exquisite Rose Cottage. Hide

We stayed for a week at the beginning of June and everything was fine and as advertised, normally I would not mention the owners as many people do as I pay a fair amount to stay in the cottages we rent and and feel no need to thank them for the privilege of taking my cash as I view it as a business transaction, what made this couple outstanding wasRead more their genuine friendliness and desire to help. The cottage was neat tidy and well equipped and everything worked, the brownies were a nice touch and I would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a nice cosy cottage for two. The cottage is in a lovely location, a quiet village roughly 15 minutes drive into Ulverston (for the nearest big supermarket etc) and the local village has a lovely pub 3 minutes walk away with plenty of good food and drinks on offer. The surrounding lowlands are beautiful, lots of greenery and the views are superb from the cottage! The cottage isRead more meticulously decorated, superbly presented on arrival and perfectly clean. We were greeted with a little welcome hamper with cake and biscuits - a really nice surprise after the journey up. The heating system is great (wall-mounted electric heaters) and the log fire is a superb feature! Really nice to return to at the end of a day out! The quality of fittings and furnishings is excellent, better than than my own home in many cases and this all made it a real pleasure to stay in! We could not fault it in any way! Having Sky+ TV was also a bonus so that we could record and catch-up on our favourite shows after days out exploring! John the owner is a lovely chap - we had a quick catch-up with him when we arrived. Very nice and approachable if you need anything - he's always willing to help out!
