This fabulous Victorian home is in one of the Lake District’s most picturesque villages and is perfectly placed for exploring some of the area’s top attractions. The property sleeps eight guests, making it ideal for large family gatherings and special occasions. The village is brimming with literary history, with famous former residents including Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. Marvel at the illustrations in the Beatrix Potter Gallery and step back in time with a peek inside Wordsworth’s old grammar school.

The grand property feels bright and spacious, thanks to high ceilings and large windows. Great care and attention have been paid to the decor, with period features, elegant touches, and plush soft furnishings. Enter the vast lounge which is centred around a gorgeous open fire and boasts ample seating, so you can all enjoy relaxing evenings together watching a film or sharing a bottle of wine. The stylish kitchen features an AGA, so you can prepare delicious meals for the group to enjoy in the elegant dining room or on the patio in summer. Outside, discover a fabulous south-facing garden, with a large lawn for children or dogs to play on whilst you relax with a book in the sunshine.

While away an afternoon pottering around Hawkshead. Amble along the cobbled streets, admiring the higgledy-piggledy Tudor buildings and popping into the wholesome farm shops which sell a fantastic variety of local produce. A browse around the Beatrix Potter Gallery is a must during your stay. The exhibition is regularly updated and displays many of Potter’s original drawings and illustrations. Slightly further afield, you’ll find Hill Top (2.5 miles), which was the author’s writing retreat and has been beautifully preserved. Windermere is just 5 miles away, where you can take a peaceful cruise, enjoy spectacular scenery and ride on a steam train.

A lovely house in a great position. A nice walk next to a stream into the village, with lots of amenities. Great base to use to explore to the Lake District.

Would recommend with caveats. Great location, warm, homely. Caveats- TLC and attention to detail is needed. Grubby paintwork here and there. Some lightbulbs didn't work. Sink plughole stop didn't work in one of the en suites. We spent a whole day with a hot water tap in the kitchen that didn't work. We really enjoyed our stay at Hawkshead Hall. It's in a great location, within walking distance of Hawkshead village. The building is impressive but could do with a little tlc and a few upgrades to furniture and decorations. A deep clean wouldn't go amiss either. That aside, we would definitely stay here again.

The carpets are a bit worn, potentially the wrong colour for a let, and changing dead bulbs in light fittings would have been good BUT that is being picky. Characterful, spacious house for group of 6 friends. Lovely to have open fires in both kitchen and living room for colder wet days (also has board games). Location excellent. Short walk to pub and shops in hawkshead and near cycle route. Nice to have modern ensuite bathrooms and well equipped kitchen. Would happily return again in the future.

Great house and great location only criticism is that the garden is not secure for dogs, the wall that runs along the road and the gate could do with some wire fence up. The house was dusty in places and there was only 5 forks for a house that sleeps 8. Overall a lovely place which could be even better with these minor issues rectified.
