The handy location means you could soon be exploring the ethereally pretty Coniston Water 16 miles away, or treading the pretty cobbled streets of Hawkshead, a village popular with Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Inspired by your adventures and ready to unwind in style, your holiday accommodation aims to please with a roaring wood burner and cosy interiors.

Wander through the attractive garden and leave your muddy shoes and coats by the door, heading inside your cosy abode ready to hunker down with hot chocolate and homemade cake. Traditional beams, exposed stone and surprisingly contemporary details feature throughout, whether you are snuggled up by the wood burner in the lounge or cooking up a fabulous feast in the generous kitchen. There’s a large table for dining, and the patio is a wonderful place to start your morning with fresh coffee and views of the fells. Your sleeping quarters are a treat with four bedrooms in total, two of which have their own en-suite bathrooms and the remainder share the family bathroom.

Plan a staycation that is as active as you please, enjoying water sports on Coniston Water and lacing up your boots ready to scale the scenic trails. Elterwater 13 miles away offers walks straight out of a fairy tale, where you can enjoy walks downstream to admire the waterfalls and refuel in one of two friendly pubs. Lovely cottage, beautifully presented and really well equipped. We stayed with two families of four, there was plenty of space and the rooms were large enough that we weren't living on top of each other. Yes it is remote, but access is good and we were able to access Ambleside and the rest of the Lake District within an hours drive. Lots to do locaRead morelly, with some lovely walks in Dunnerdale and Eskdale. The pub is within 30mins walk. We had a brilliant relaxing holiday. Hide

A really lovely house in a fantastic location. Be prepared to be remote (either plan food well and bring it, or be prepared to drive a lot) - but if you'll enjoy/don't mind that, then it's a really unique place to stay. Decent walks available without needing to get in the car - we went up the Old Man of Coniston on a loop from the house, really enjRead moreoyed it. The kitchen is well-equipped and the wood-burner was a very welcome companion during a mostly wet October week! Hide

For those looking for seclusion and stunning views this property ticks all the boxes. While Mountain Bike routes are limited here and a robust car is a must for trips further into the lakes - walking options abound. The property has all requirements for a lovely self-catering stay in the lakes - just be prepared for self-sufficiency.

Extremely remote but beautiful house. If you like hiking and dont mind driving (quite far) for essentials then this is the perfect location. Take plenty of food with you! Views are incredible and a great relaxing holiday away from the busy every day life.

Adventure, memories and awe-inspiring natural beauty await you in the rugged, wild and unique Cumbrian Lake District where beautiful expanses of water merge with magical forests against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and fells.

This ancient land has been sculpted by time and nature and is the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first UK National Park to be awarded this outstanding accolade. Poets, writers and artists throughout the ages have been instinctively drawn here; William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin, to name a few. The attractions and the diverse landscape will not fail to charm the young and the young at heart, whether that be thrill-seeking activities you seek, pure and cathartic inspiration or simply just some relaxation, you will find it here.

Cycling, walking, canoeing, white-water rafting, flying, parachuting and ballooning are just some of the offerings for any level of adrenalin junky. Experience the glory of nature in the wild or in a setting such as the Predator Experience where you can walk with wolves and learn about the importance of conservation. For a complete day of family, enjoy treetop capers at Go-Ape in the Grizedale Forest.

Vibrant towns and villages are there to be discovered, be it by land or water. You can step back in time and enjoy a steamboat cruise on a lake or leisurely unearth the dynamic scene of contemporary art, culture and some of the best dining in the UK by foot, bus or car.

The National Park is an area of breath-taking beauty that will leave you spoilt for choice, refuelled and inspired. So much so that you’ll want to come back time and time again.
