Tucked away in the sleepy village of Eaglesfield on the north-eastern edge of the Lake District National Park, this cosy country cottage is ideal for friends who want to explore the area’s natural beauty. With the national park to the east and the Cumbrian coast to the west, you’ll have the very best of coast and country to explore within a few miles of the property. Despite its peaceful location, you’re only 3 miles from the delightful market town of Cockermouth, which has a colourful history and is home to an array of independent shops and eateries.
This charming cottage has been lovingly restored to create a comfortable, yet stylish, home. After discarding your coats and boots in the small porch, head into the surprisingly spacious, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Original features blend effortlessly with traditional furniture and modern fittings to create a home full of character. You can easily relax, cook and dine together here, with plenty of space for everyone. There’s a step down to the lounge, where you can snuggle up in front of the wood burner. Up the narrow, winding stairs, you’ll find two gorgeous double bedrooms, both with low sloping ceilings, and a step down to the family bathroom. Outside, steps opposite the house lead to a pretty garden – a perfect spot for a quiet moment.
Keen walkers will be spoilt for choice here, with gentle walks alongside majestic lakes, leisurely strolls on unspoilt beaches and energetic scrambles up fells. Cyclists will also enjoy the varied landscape. Bassenthwaite Lake (7.5 miles) is surrounded by breathtaking views of the fells and is home to nesting ospreys. For more stunning panoramas, take the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway from nearby Ravenglass (24.5 miles). ‘Outdoor Capital’ Keswick is only 15 miles away with its range of outdoor shops, as well as water sports on Derwentwater.
