Overview
From a leafy, winding country lane that takes you high above Ullswater, and then along a private drive, you come to Bank Barn and the few nearby properties which are all set under a wooded ridge overlooking the lake, with a backdrop of fell and mountain.
The barn is the perfect location for family holidays, with easy access to many attractions, yet is off the tourist trail offering true peace and seclusion. A half mile from the shores of Ullswater, you will have plenty of fun in, on and by it, with walks onto high fell and mountain, and the most wonderful house to come home to after your day's explorations to relax and unwind.
Set in large grounds, your first impression will be of the sheer size of this former Lakeland barn. Built, designed and refurbished as a home for and by the owners, the property offers stylish interiors with a contemporary theme, with far eastern influences and wonderful spaces in which to enjoy your holiday.
The Living Spaces
From the rear courtyard you enter into a large boot room with plenty of space for all those bits and bobs.
From here you step down into a large farmhouse style kitchen. Very well fitted and equipped, there is a large table for occasional dining, an AGA set in the old fireplace for use in winter months, along with a huge American style fridge freezer, which will deliver endless ice for your long tall drinks.
From the kitchen you pass into the central hall and used for more formal dining. A large space with pitched and beamed ceiling, there is an elegant table, some occasional sofas and armchairs and a huge picture window, which is filled with a view of lake and mountain.
The sitting room is spacious but cosy, filled with plump, comfortable sofas and chairs set around a roaring open fire, perfect to relax and while away an evening in the company of friends and family, or sit back and watch a movie on the 40" flat screen TV.
Back to the dining room, where a winding staircase takes you down to the lower level and the long hall spanning the whole length of the building, and quite a feature in itself.
Downstairs you will find the laundry room and, finally, the snug, perfect for children with sofas, a large TV and stairs that bring you back up to the top floor into the boot room.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
Off the hall you have four bedrooms from which to choose. There is the master bedroom with a super-king bed and large en-suite bathroom with separate shower, bath, twin basins and WC. A further super-king, again with en-suite bathroom with separate shower, bath and WC. Two twin bedded bedrooms, both with 3’ beds and a shared bathroom with bath, shower, basin and WC.
Garden Spaces
Surrounding Bank Barn are terraced patios and lawned areas planted with shrubs and trees. With stunning views of Ullswater and the surrounding mountains, the gardens are the perfect place for adults to relax and children to play in.
All in this is one of our finest holiday homes where all expectations should be met. Whether your holiday is with family, a gathering of friends or simply a couple looking for somewhere extra special and a little bit unique - come – enjoy and congratulate yourself on your excellent taste.
Out & About
Ullswater is thought by many to be the most beautiful of all the lakes in the northern Lake District. Compared by some to Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, it is a serpentine body of water snaking a nine-mile course under the lea of magnificent fells, woodland and mountain.
Much of the lake, its shore and surrounding fells are accessible for visitors to explore, where you will find some of the finest walks and water activities, along with the amenities of the lakeside villages.
One of the best walks in the National Park is the trail that runs along the eastern shores of Ullswater. Explored from the southern end of the lake, dominated by Place Fell, St Sunday Cragg, Fairfield and Helvellyn, you take the path from Glenridding over to the east side of the water. The route takes you all the way to Sandwick and onto Howtown. You will be able to ramble all day with a magnificent view always in your sight. For the return journey, board the steamboat from Howtown back to Glenridding, but do check boat times and last sailings.
Please note there is a refundable £300 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.
