Kiln Houses is situated in the village of Bouth four miles to the west of Lake Windermere, at the southern end of the Rusland Valley. The middle of three traditional Lake District terraced cottages, No 2 Kiln Houses offers the perfect holiday retreat, situated on a quiet backwater lane with views across pasture and within a short walk from one of Cumbria's best pubs, The White Hart. Popular with visitors for a peaceful setting among low fell, it is away from the busy crowds, offering pretty local walks and cycle rides, where you can explore the country lanes and visit the deer park.

The nearest bus stop is 100 meters away at the White Hart public house. The nearest train station is 7 miles away in Ulverston. Pre-bookable accessible taxis are available from the station. The nearest airport, Manchester airport is 100 miles away.


Local Facilities

Greenodd village is located 3 miles away in the direction of Ulverston. Here you will find a petrol station, a post office, a village shop with delivery facilities of newspapers, a fish and chip shop, a bakery and a butchers. The nearest supermarket is Booths in Ulverston. Tesco and Asda will deliver for preordered deliveries via their website.


Arrival and parking

  • Lay-by parking 50 meters north of the cottage on the opposite side of the lane. There is a space for 3/4 cars. The lay-by is rough ground, mainly grassed.
  • The entrance to the cottage is immediately off the lane. The door opens inwards and is 82cm wide. The keyhole is 94cm high. There is a step in front of the door which is less than 3cm high. The step is level with the ground floor.


The property

Public areas

  • Smoke alarms are fitted throughout the property.
    • The entrance is directly into the lounge, and the kitchen is situated directly off the lounge through a doorway 74cm wide.
    • The dining room is accessed through an archway 89cm wide, and there are 2 steps, both 18cm high.
    • The staircase is accessed off the lounge, and is through a doorway 71cm wide. The door opens into the lounge over the first step. The staircase has 12 steps the clear width of 73cm. The steps are 19cm high by 24cm deep.
    • There are 2 bedrooms accessed off the landing area through doors that open into the bedrooms which are 72 cm wide.



  • The bathroom is also accessed off the landing and is 69cm wide. The bathroom has a WC with a toilet seat 43cm high. The floor surface is linoleum. There is a clear space of 96cm by 136cm adjoining the bath, and 120cm by 80cm adjoining the washbasin. The washbasin is 82cm high, and the bath is 52cm high. There is a shower over the bath. The landing is uneven due to the age and character of the property.

  • There is an integral hob and a oven/grill, a single drainer and stainless steel sink unit

  • A path leads from rear door to gate with a path clear width of 70cm
    • Access to the garden is via a path leading from the road around the adjoining cottage which is up two steps off the road. The first step is 26cm high by 90cm wide and 57cm deep. The second step is 29cm high by 90cm wide. The gate opens inward over the second step
    • A short gravel path with a clear width of 60cm and approximately 6m in length leads to the garden gate
    • The garden gate is 100cm wide
