Good food, peace and quiet, historic surroundings and beautiful scenery: this is all on offer locally for guests staying at this property, not to mention a huge choice of outdoor adventures and places of interest.

Nestled at the southern tip of the Lake District; Cartmel is often described as a ‘hidden gem’, featuring great restaurants, cafes, pubs, its own brewery, a picturesque racecourse, Cartmel Priory (dating back to 1250) and of course its world-famous sticky toffee pudding!  In short, once you’ve discovered Cartmel, you’ll understand why visitors keep coming back.

There is plenty to do in and around Cartmel, not least for foodies with Simon Rogan’s Michelin-starred restaurants right in the heart of the village.  And there are walks aplenty right from your doorstep -  low level, hilly, wooded or even coastal since Cartmel sits just north of the Cartmel peninsula where you’ll find the Victorian estuary town of Grange-over-Sands and its historic promenade.

Further afield, there is even more to discover in the beautiful Lake District; England’s largest National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Whether you enjoy fell walking, watersports, mountain biking or exploring places rich with history, there really is something for everyone, and you’re never far away from a great meal, relaxing drink or cream tea to round off your day of adventures.

Arrive and park securely within the gated private parking area where there is ample space for two cars (a rare find in Cartmel).  There is a secluded, shingled outdoor courtyard area with table, chairs and fire pit for cosy alfresco dining.   Hidden in the corner is a tiny den space, handcrafted from oak and a thoughtful nod to Cartmel’s beautiful Priory.  From here, unpacking the car and accessing the house is easy as you enter via the rear entrance, first stepping into a spacious utility room - an ideal spot to leave coats and muddy boots after a day of exploring. This practical space also houses a washing machine, tumble dryer, additional household essentials and a wicker hamper and rug that you can use for picnics on the racecourse.

From here, you enter the bright and airy dining/sitting room, complete with a rustic dining table and chairs, perfect for gathering together to share meals and plan your next adventure. The room also features a comfortable sitting area with a Smart TV, while the well-equipped kitchen with large range cooker and granite worktops lies just off this space, offering everything you need to prepare a delicious meal.

Beyond the dining room, a grand hallway houses the property’s main entrance and from here you can access the second lounge. Bright and airy with plenty of comfortable seating and a calm feel, this relaxing lounge space provides the perfect place to switch off and unwind, with a flame-effect gas fire, Smart TV/DVD, and French windows that open directly onto the secluded courtyard garden.

Throughout the property, you will notice it is thoughtfully decorated and complemented by beautiful artwork by the owner - a professional contemporary British artist whose pieces add character and charm to every room.  Upstairs, you’ll find a generously proportioned, bright and airy landing area and two beautifully-presented bedrooms, each with crisp white bedlinen, beautiful woollen throws and en-suite facilities. The master bedroom is a generous king-size, offering ample wardrobe and drawer space, a dressing table, and its own Smart TV. Its en-suite bathroom feels like a private sanctuary, with a deep corner bath, separate shower, and WC. The second bedroom, a stylish twin, is finished to the same high standard and also benefits from generous storage space to unpack and unwind, and includes an en-suite shower room with WC.  Local Cumbrian-made ‘Bath House' hand wash, hand lotion and bath soak are provided with compliments in the bathrooms and add a touch of natural luxury for guests.

Clean and comfortable, with a great location for local pubs etc. Too far away from the main centres of the lake district itself if you are a walker, 1 hour + drive to most locations. But overall had an enjoyable stay.
