Overview

Owners James and Rachel Bartholomew have refurbished this two-bedroom cottage to the highest standard, work which is reflected in the Visit England higher award of 5 Star Gold Award. James is an accomplished artist and member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Art, where along with tasteful décor and furnishings you will find in the cottage a selection of his fine prints and paintings. The cottage lies on the edge of the village, a few minutes' walk to the central square. From the lane, large double gates open into the private courtyard where you can park two cars and enjoy the patio garden.

The Living Spaces

Enter via the scullery, where you have laundry facilities and plenty of space for boots, bits and bobs. From here you go through to a good-sized dining room. There is a large table, a real flame gas fire and a big comfy leather sofa and a flat screen TV, all perfect for gathering and dining with friends or family.

Off the dining room is a very well fitted kitchen with excellent units, granite work tops and a Britannia range cooker with double oven and gas hobs.

From the dining room you also access the main hall across which lies your sitting room. Large sofas, a huge bean bag, a big wide screen TV and a real flame gas fire to give atmosphere in winter, along with French doors where you can spill out into the patio garden, all combine to make the perfect space to relax whatever time of year you decide to visit.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

From the hall stairs lead up to the first floor-landing. Here you have a very comfortable double bedroom which lies next to the main bathroom, with bath, hand shower, separate shower cubicle, basin and WC. This can be accessed from the master bedroom and made en-suite. There is also a lovely twin bedroom with its own en-suite shower room with basin and WC.

Garden Spaces

The courtyard is gravelled with raised beds planted with bushes and shrubs. During spring and summer it makes a delightful, private place to relax, enjoy a good book or set up the barbecue for some alfresco dining.

For me this is a perfect retreat for couples or small families offering first class accommodation, easy living all with the added benefits of the excellent wining and dining that Cartmel has to offer.

Out & About

The village just about has everything you could want for a holiday destination. Picture perfect there are four excellent pubs along with celebrity favourite, Simon Rogan's l'Enclume. Awarded two Michelin stars and voted the 2015 Good Food Guide's No1 UK restaurant, this is a must for special occasions.

There are plenty of easy walks from the village. A favourite is to climb high up onto Hampsfell with its panoramic views across the Morecambe Bay, then descend down to Grange Over Sands or explore the tracks running through Eggerslack Woods.

A great day out is to take a Segway off road tour. The offices are by the car park and the reviews so far from our guest make this a must for a bit of fun.

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Such a lovely cottage in a fantastic location! We have had a fantastic weeks stay and have enjoyed exploring both Cartmel and the near by lakes. Lovely food at the Cavendish Arms and the Pig and Whistle, very friendly. Beautiful walks Tarn Hows, Grasmere, Old Man of Coniston, our Dash Hound especially enjoyed! We will be back!

We have had a lovely comfortable stay in your lovely cottage. Very close to all amenities, nice and warm and everything we needed. A great choice of eating places at the local pubs and restaurants and a beautiful area for walks. our first stay but hopefully not our last.

WOWEE what a fabulous Christmas we have had! The house was beautifully decorated very tastefully done. Cartmel is our favorite village in the lakes, lots of choice where to eat the Cavendish was especially good food and great gin bar with the choice of around 20 different brands. I also visited the Cartmel Spa which is very welcoming and offers Read morea good selection of treatments. My husband and his some went on the Lakeland Segway's highly recommended! Thanks for providing a holey base where we could kick back and relax after a long day of walking and exploring the surrounding area. Cartmel is a great place to stay with tasty food and drink within walking distance. It also provides easy access to the southern lakes where the scenery is astounding!
