Overview

No 2 Rose Cottage adjoins No1 Rose Cottage, where together they are two of the finest and most popular homes in the Lake District. Recently owners John and Lorraine have made many improvements to both cottages, where No 2 now has a super new bathroom along with a new utility and laundry room within the extended kitchen.

The combination of comfort, a warm welcome of freshly baked cakes and the overall quality and style has been recognised by Visit England with the highest accolade of a 5 Star Gold Award.

Set on the edge of Bouth, this 17C cottage is a true retreat, where you will find peace in the surrounding countryside, relax on the patio garden and enjoy the splendid ambience of the cottage. The village of Bouth is quiet and noted for one of Cumbria's best pubs, The White Hart. The location makes for easy exploration of the southern lakes and to the south, the rolling meadows of the peninsulas and the south lakes coast.

The Living Spaces

Approached across the path in front of No 1, the cottage enjoys a sunny aspect with a private little patio area for barbecues whilst enjoying the pastoral view.

You enter into a designer kitchen. Gleaming stainless-steel cooker, polished granite and wood work tops, slate floor, revealed stonework and quality furnishings combine to make a room as practical for preparing dinner as it is pleasant to dine in. From the kitchen there is a utility room with dishwasher, full size fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

The sitting room is as cosy as can be with a roaring log burning stove. Cream open stonewalls and oak beams give the perfect cottage feel and the choice of ornaments, fabrics, comfy sofa and armchairs add elegance to comfort.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Upstairs the bathroom is sleek and modern with a freestanding double-ended bath, a separate shower along with WC and hand basin. The double bedroom has a pitched beamed ceiling and a fabulous king sized carved walnut French Bed, complemented by fine furnishings and crisp linen.

Garden Spaces

Although small, the patio area is really quite charming. A sun trap on bright days there are wide views across to the fields and woodland and is perfect for a pre-dinner drink or simply to take some down time from exploring our wonderful landscape. If you are lucky, come evening you may see deer crossing the meadow - wonderful.

All in all this is one of the finest cottages in the Lake District, very much for adults who may come and enjoy romantic, relaxed holidays in style and great comfort.

Out & About

Bouth lies four miles to the west of Lake Windermere, at the southern end of the Rusland Valley. Popular with visitors for a peaceful setting among low fell, it is away from the busy crowds, offering pretty local walks and cycle rides, where you can explore the country lanes and visit the deer park. The local pub is one of our best, hosted by Nigel Barton who keeps a fine cellar of real ales and serves up the very best roast beef and Yorkshire pud.

The cottage was magical. If you have high standards, it will exceed them. It was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated & thoughtfully equipped with everything you might possibly need. Pretty, cosy, welcoming cottage in a great location for exploring the Lakes. The owners couldnt have been more helpful and responsive. Very comfortable and a lovely home to return to after a days walking. Great village pub too.

A small but perfectly formed cottage. Very cosy in the right way and perfect for two. The bathroom is particularly nice. Although at one end of the Lake District, in winter we had no problem easily getting to all the places we wanted to go.

We visited at the end of November 2019, on arrival we were met with a lovely cozy and warm cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed the week, massive bath and a fantastic woodburner were perfect for evenings in after walking all day. The bed was extremely comfortable. Lovely pub only a minute walk away, but sufficient utensils were available to cook your ownRead more meals as required. The hosts were friendly and approachable, and prepared the property to a high standard prior to our arrival. Thank you! Hide

THE COTTAGE WAS IN AN EXCELLENT AREA FOR ANYBODY LOOKING FOR A QUIET TIME. THE PARKING AREA WAS A SLIGHT DRAWBACK BECAUSE OF THE SLOPE AND WHILST THE ADVERTISEMENT GAVE THE IMPRESSION THAT A LAWN AREA WAS INCLUDED THIS TURNED OUT NOT TO BE THE CASE. The welcome was top class a 'table set for tea for 2'. Unfortunately we did not like being overlooked which was not really explained in the details. There was an unpleasant odour in the bathroom which seemed to come from the old chest of drawers the basin was fixed to I found this unfortunate as it had been refitted to a high standard. We also founRead mored the stairs far too steep okay if you are a little younger and I am not sure if this was explained either in the details. Hide

Adventure, memories and awe-inspiring natural beauty await you in the rugged, wild and unique Cumbrian Lake District where beautiful expanses of water merge with magical forests against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and fells.

This ancient land has been sculpted by time and nature and is the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first UK National Park to be awarded this outstanding accolade. Poets, writers and artists throughout the ages have been instinctively drawn here; William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin, to name a few. The attractions and the diverse landscape will not fail to charm the young and the young at heart, whether that be thrill-seeking activities you seek, pure and cathartic inspiration or simply just some relaxation, you will find it here.

Cycling, walking, canoeing, white-water rafting, flying, parachuting and ballooning are just some of the offerings for any level of adrenalin junky. Experience the glory of nature in the wild or in a setting such as the Predator Experience where you can walk with wolves and learn about the importance of conservation. For a complete day of family, enjoy treetop capers at Go-Ape in the Grizedale Forest.

Vibrant towns and villages are there to be discovered, be it by land or water. You can step back in time and enjoy a steamboat cruise on a lake or leisurely unearth the dynamic scene of contemporary art, culture and some of the best dining in the UK by foot, bus or car.

The National Park is an area of breath-taking beauty that will leave you spoilt for choice, refuelled and inspired. So much so that you’ll want to come back time and time again.
