Big skies, beautiful fell views and a wonderfully peaceful setting make this one-bed cottage an inviting base for couples or solo travellers, in the heart of Beatrix Potter country. Tucked away in the idyllic hamlet of Roger Ground, the dwelling is a pleasant, traffic-free stroll from the centre of Hawkshead (0.5 miles). Here, you'll find a charming cobbled square, whitewashed cottages, galleries, tea rooms, a well-stocked shop and welcoming traditional inns to explore, all within 0.5 miles. A little further afield, Ambleside (5 miles) has a wider choice of shops and amenities. Outdoor lovers will be in their element, with Esthwaite Water (1.5 miles) on hand for peaceful fishing, along with Tarn Hows (3 miles), where you can enjoy an accessible circular walk with mountain views. Coniston Water (5 miles) is also nearby for boat hire and paddleboarding.

You'll access this one-storey abode via a private garden and an external wooden staircase. Drop coats and boots in the entrance hall before stepping into a spacious, loft-style open-plan living area with cruck beams, where picture windows and a huge skylight flood the space with natural light. After long days exploring the local haunts, curl up on the deep cushioned sofas, perhaps watching something on the TV and DVD player. The well-equipped kitchen features everything you need for self-catering, along with a Nespresso coffee machine for your morning cup of joe. Meals will be scenic, with the dining area perfectly positioned to enjoy the countryside views. You'll have a romantic king-size bedroom, also with vaulted ceilings and lovely beams. The shower room has a large cubicle with a powerful shower plus a WC.

Outside, relax in the well-tended walled garden, which has outdoor furniture for al fresco moments on sunny days. The property is set behind a larger Grade II-listed neighbour, where you'll have private parking for one car, making arrivals and day trips easy.
