Take a break from busy life at this characterful cottage in the historic Lakes village of Hawkshead. Dating back to 1810, this one-bed home is a classic chocolate-box retreat styled in a traditional English country cottage theme and sits along a quiet lane just behind the main square. Hawkshead is largely pedestrianised, inviting relaxed strolls through cobbled streets and pretty ginnels lined with whitewashed cottages and colourful planting in warmer months. You'll find gift shops, galleries, tea rooms and cosy pubs for light bites or heartier evening meals. The National Trust's Bookshop is just 100 metres away. A little further afield, Esthwaite Water (1 mile) offers peaceful fishing, and the surrounding area is renowned for superb walking, road cycling and mountain biking. Coniston Water (6 miles) is ideal for boat hire and paddleboarding.
On arrival, step through the elegant lattice porch and into a welcoming lounge where deep cushioned sofas are arranged around a wood burner, creating a wonderfully cosy atmosphere. A delightful window seat gives you a charming spot from which to watch village life, while a Smart TV and DVD player are on hand for evening entertainment. To the rear, the well-equipped kitchen/diner has everything needed for self-catering, plus a stable door leading out to the ginnel with bench seating. Upstairs, the romantic king-size bedroom features a solid McIntosh mahogany bed and a separate dressing room, while the fully tiled shower room includes a corner cubicle and WC. Outside, guests can pull up briefly to unload (please avoid the medical centre bays) before using the permit for parking in the nearby car park.
There is bench seating to the front, along with a secure outhouse that provides ample storage for two bikes and also houses the washing machine.
