Create unforgettable memories with your loved ones at this lovely cottage in the scenic Lakeland village of Hawkshead. Sleeping four people across two bedrooms, it's a perfect accommodation option for small families or groups of friends seeking a peaceful bolthole to call home while they explore the Lake District together. Kick off your day with a stroll in Ambleside (5 miles), where you can see its famous Bridge House and check out the local cafes. Or head to Elterwater (7.5 miles) and set off for a serene riverside stroll beneath the Langdale Pikes. Get in the saddle and explore the fantastic trails at Grizedale Forest (3.5 miles) by bike, or make a beeline for Bowness-on-Windermere (10 miles) to hop aboard a boat for a scenic cruise of England's longest lake. Afterwards, come home to Hawkshead and treat yourself to a sweet afternoon tea in a quaint teashop.

Step inside your cottage and head upstairs to the living room – an elegant space with an electric fire sitting on a slate hearth. The views towards Latterbarrow make this the perfect spot to unwind. When it's time to eat, make your way downstairs to the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner – a beautiful room with impressive wooden beams and exposed stone flag walls. After dinner, head back to the living room to catch up on your favourite TV shows. You'll find one double bedroom on the ground floor, as well as one with an en-suite shower room on the first floor. A family bathroom with a walk-in shower on the ground floor completes the layout.

Outside, you'll find a secluded courtyard, as well as a split-level area with views of Hawkshead Church. Please supervise any children as there is a drop from the garden down to the river.

This is a lovely, quiet, comfortable cottage in an outstanding location. Hawkshead is so pretty, with walks from the door and lots of places to eat, drink and shop. On arrival/departure you can park free of charge for 30 minutes in designated spaces in the main car park while you walk to the cottage to collect/leave the parking permit for the permiRead moret only car park. The cottage is well equipped though we'd have liked more clothes storage beyond the few hangers supplied. It wasn't super clean: it was a bit dusty and hadn't been vacuumed very thoroughly. It's lovely to have the outside space but a shame that it's not maintained as a garden, just weeds. Finally, we were really lucky with the weather (a heatwave even in the Lake District) and the cottage was so cool to come back to that it felt like air conditioning, yet on the first night we had the heating on and it was nice and cosy. House was well equipped, and beautifully warm. Perfect location, about 70 yards away from The Kings Arms.

Cottage is lovely - feels cosy without being cramped. Kids loved the board games. Heating, hot water, hair dryers all much appreciated after rainy days on the Fells. Hawkshead is a great village - pubs, restaurants, groceries aplenty. The church is well worth a visit. And all within east distance of Coniston, Ambleside, Hill Top etc.

Excellent centrally based property - warm and comfortable. My five stars is because we did have a problem with plumbing whilst we were there but the service from Lakeland Retreats was impeccable and swift in rectifying the situation.

Perfect location and Hawkshead was the ideal place to explore the Lake District and Scafell Pike. The place suited our needs. When we arrived there was no toilet paper. I messaged as soon as we got there this but there was no reply till the next day so we had to buy our own. There was no milk or dish washing tablets as advertised. When we told MichRead moreelle, these items were brought to us the next day which we appreciated. If you are planning on cooking, bring everything you need (oil, salt, pepper etc). Good selection of cookware, some fun games and a nice space to spend some time in. Hide
