A stylish Lake District retreat, this duplex apartment sits at the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom hideaway is in a superb setting for shops, galleries, pubs and eateries, and is just 500 metres from the shores of spectacular Windermere. Hire a rowing boat or a self-drive motor boat to head out onto the lake under your own steam. Board an official cruise instead and travel the length of Windermere, savouring the scenery from the water. Catch a heritage steam train along the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and journey to the southern tip of the lake. The National Trust's Fell Foot, 7 miles from the apartment, is at this end of Windermere too and is a perfect spot for picnicking and walking. Visit the bustling hubs of Kendal, 9.5 miles away, and Keswick, 22.5 miles away, during your stay. Ullswater is 14.5 miles from your base.

Climb the eight external steps to let yourselves into the Cumbrian retreat. Enter to find the welcoming accommodation is arranged across the ground and lower-ground floors of a townhouse. Step into the modern kitchen, which has chic work surfaces and pretty cabinets, to find it offers all the equipment you'll need for preparing lovely meals on a self-catered break. Rustle up home-cooked meals in here, then dine together at the elegant breakfast bar in the island. Wander on through the glass door to find yourselves in the lounge. This light-filled space has a large bay window and comfortable seating arranged around the cosy wood burner and the Smart TV. Settle in here for movie evenings together or play games on those evenings you decide not to go out. When you are ready to turn in for the night, make your way down to the lower level of the apartment via the stairs from the kitchen. There is a delightful twin bedroom, with zip-and-link beds that can be made into a super-king-size on request, plus a sumptuous king-size, with an en-suite bathroom. The family shower room is also down here. Both bedrooms benefit from a Smart TV to suit those who enjoy watching late-night films in bed.

There is no outside seating space with this apartment, but guests will find they are just 500 metres from the beautiful lake. The holiday home does benefit from private parking for one car.

We really loved our stay at Chapel House, it is in a great location in Bowness, central but a nice quiet road. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children, we stayed for 10 nights, the property had all we needed and was comfortable and homely. We had one small issue during our holiday and it was sorted out so quickly by both the owner and Lakeside Retreats, they couldn't have done more to help and we really appreciated them helping to ensure our holiday all went smoothly. I would definitely recommend this property, we had a lovely stay. Hide

We enjoyed our stay at Chapel House. It's a lovely property in a great location in the centre of Bowness. The house was spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The bedrooms are in the basement so stayed cool. The only slight frustration was parking, as the space is tight for a big car. That said, we'd still recommend the propRead moreerty if you're looking to stay in Bowness. Hide

The house is perfectly placed for all that's going on in Windermere and Bowness. Having private parking allows for drives out with worrying about parking spaces. I read the parking was tight in previous reviews but we have a 4x4 and didn't struggle. Parking is also ideal for loading/unloading. Bedrooms are really clean and beds are very comfortableRead more. Kitchen is immaculate and has everything you need to make meals if staying in. Lounge is clean, cosy and benefits from the fire and the sky Tv. Hosts were great trying to help me solve an issue after I left something behind. We'll be back, hopefully within a few weeks, if we can get in! Hide

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This was our first visit to the Lake District and it has been fantastic! We have covered the area well without needing a car. A good place to use as a base to explore the local areas from a town centre location. Spacious, well decorated and well equipped. The floors are fairly thin so the people upstairs were clearly audible when they walked around, and those in the bedrooms downstairs were sometime disturbed by people in the living space. Overall a good place to stay.
