We did enjoy our stay here, but there are some things that need to be improved. It was in such a great location, so close to shops, restaurants and the bus interchange for travelling further afield, and it was modern and had really helpful amenities such as a dishwasher. However, the property is in dire need of a thorough deep clean, there was thicRead morek bundles of dust in the radiators, flecks of dirt over the skirting boards and it's quite a damp house, so had some black mould in places and the linens all felt damp, especially in the bedroom. While comfortable, the mattress was not supportive and both of us struggled with back pain while staying at Castle Crag that disappeared once we stayed the night in our own bed, something to be aware of if your back is not in the best shape. Kitchen was decently equipped I thought, we cooked basic meals there and generally had everything we needed besides a ladle when we made some stew. An important note for dog owners - when booking this property we assumed the 'private terrace' would be attached to the property but it is not, it's in fact a shared terrace with the other holiday stays in the house, meaning any time our dog wanted to be let out for a wee, we had to put on her harness and lead. This is not specified clearly in the description of the property and while manageable, was annoying in the mornings especially when you have an excitable dog like we do who thought she was going on an adventure everytime she wanted to go for a wee. I enjoyed our stay and it was a nice escape, but I don't think I could recommend to anyone fully unless these things were addressed. Hide

Disappointing stay at Castle Crag, smell of damp on arrival, the property hadn't been cleaned properly, there was damp and black mould in the bedroom next to the bedside cabinet, the bed felt damp when sleeping, the ironing board was mouldy and stained and the kitchen utensils, pans etc had not been cleaned properly, most of our week we spent away Read morefrom the property and only used it for a bed for the night, didn't cook in the property due to the pans being dirty and food debris on unclean utensils. This is certainly not as advertised and certainly not a 4 star property - we have complained. We holiday in the lakes every year and this is certainly one of the worst properties I have stayed in for the money charged. Will not be staying again. Hide

Great central Ambleside location, very convenient for shops and restaurants. There were also several walks we could do starting directly from Ambleside
