A wonderful getaway for larger families and groups of friends, this light-filled retreat sits in a tranquil spot at the heart of the Lake District, surrounded by breathtaking fells and magisterial countryside. The lively town of Ambleside has a choice of fantastic places to eat and drink, with an array of popular attractions and landmarks including the Armitt Museum, The Bridge House, Stock Ghyll Force and the site of the Ambleside Roman Fort. The edge of Windermere is just over half a mile away, with steamships taking you the length of the lake, with calling points at Wray Castle, Brockhole and Bowness. To the north are the smaller lakes of Grasmere and Rydal Water (both within 3.5 miles) or you can head south-west to Coniston Water and Esthwaite Water (both within 7 miles). Walkers can also explore Rydal Cave, Skelwith Force and Cathedral Cavern (all within 5.5 miles).

Accessed via a flight of external stairs, the opulent first-floor apartment features a spacious and sophisticated open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner/snug, making an ideal space for family and friends to get together and unwind in comfort. The elegant main lounge is light-filled, with a traditional wood burner, ample seating, a Smart TV and dual aspect, full-height sliding windows. A stylish dining table provides a sociable central point, leading over towards a sleek, fully equipped and beautifully organised kitchen with a large island and ample work and storage space. To one side, a cheery snug has further seating and another Smart TV. The apartment also features a handy utility room, a fresh and invigorating bathroom and a choice of three beautiful bedrooms: a charming double with a Juliet balcony and en-suite shower room, and two cosy king-size rooms, one with an en-suite shower room. The tranquil ground-floor apartment provides a private space for a couple, with its own entrance leading into a cheery lounge with comfortable seating, a Smart TV and a welcoming wood burner. Heading through, the airy kitchen/diner has a charming dining table for two, perfect for a romantic meal which you can prepare in the fully equipped and thoughtfully presented kitchen. This apartment also has a colourful bedroom with a sumptuous king-size bed alongside an invigorating bathroom.

From the ground-floor apartment, patio doors lead out into a charming courtyard garden with peaceful seating for two. Meanwhile, the first-floor apartment opens out onto a lovely furnished balcony perfect for dining alfresco and taking in the far-reaching views towards the lake. Private parking is available for three cars.

Beautiful House with stunning views quite And peaceful yet only a five minute walk into Ambleside. Our family had a wonderful stay and Will always remember our Stay at Cairn How as our favourite of many visits to the Lakes .

We have stayed in many properties in the lakes but this is without question the best we have ever rented. The quality of the house itself is only surpassed by the views from the terrace. The owners have gone to great lengths to think of everything to make the stay as comfortable and luxurious as possible. Ambleside is so close by and a very easy waRead morelk. We would stay at Cairn How again in a heartbeat. The only very minor niggle with the property is that the heating controls don't seem to function to well and we couldn't seem to turn off the underfloor heating but it did not impact our stay. Hide

Superb location! We travel a lot and have stayed in many luxury houses in the lake district! This is by far the best. The house was spotless, so clean! The house was very cosy & warm, whilst remaining extra spacious. We had the best time staying here. 5 minite walk into ambleside. We will be staying again. Fabulous property!

House had several things we took issue with. Fire/heat alarms were far to sensitive and we wneded up not cooking most days as we couldnt stand the noise. The heating for the property was on constant whilst the weather was 20 degrees plus each day. There were instruxtions on how to operate this but it didnt help. The radiator in the main bathroom anRead mored one of the on suites was on its highest setting and two of our guests touched these and received bad burns. Thankfully they werent serious. If these things are addressed i would gladly stay at this property again Hide

Excellent property, well equipped, lovely view. Nice garden. Comfortable place to stay and very centrally located for many Lakes activities and visiting points. Not 5 stars because the property was nor cleaned to a high standard and because the heating did not work in the lower apartment which meant it was too chilly.

Wonderful property, we loved every minute of our stay. Equipped to a very high standard with lovely fixtures and fittings. Extremely comfortable and situated in a very quiet residential area of Ambleside but only 10 minutes from the shops. We also enjoyed sitting outside in the patio area. Would not hesitate to recommend.
