A delightful cottage sleeping six guests. An ideal base for a holiday away from it all in the unspoiled landscape close to the Solway Coast, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are vast expanses of tranquil, unspoiled wide sand stretches with intertidal mudflats and saltmarshes. The remoteness of these give the area its appeal and character. There are several nature reserves, and lovely areas to walk and cycle. RSPB nature reserves are also numerous along the coast. Carlisle (6. 5 miles) is steeped in history and culture. Explore the city’s a 900-year-old castle, ancient cathedral and newly refurbished Tullie House museum as well as any abundance of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. The Hadrian's Wall path which ends at Bowness on Solway (3 miles) is a must see as well as the historic sites of Lanercost and Birdoswald, both within 23 miles. The popular Lake District markets town of Pooley Bridge (Ullswater) Keswick (Derwentwater) are also within 35 miles.

Your characterful country hideaway has original beams throughout and is charmingly furnished in a simple country style with appealing vintage touches. A latch door leads to a pretty kitchen/diner with a wooden cottage table and chairs and ample space. French doors open onto the garden patio, with a second set of doors in the adjacent lounge. This bright room features comfortable seating and a cosy wood burner effect electric fire set inside a period mantelpiece. A spacious bathroom completes the ground-floor layout. The first floor has low ceilings and beams galore, so take care as you climb upstairs to find a shower room and three inviting bedrooms. These comprise of a wooden king-size and two doubles with a delightful Victorian style bedstead. All three are beautifully dressed in pale bed linens and have lovely views over the Solway Firth and Scottish mountains beyond.

Both sets of French doors open onto a patio in the garden, with a private outdoor dining area. The garden is shared with the cottage owners, and you also have access to a BBQ and grassed area.

We are a family of 6, plus a dog and found this charming cottage suited us perfectly. It was so comfortable and absolutely spotless, beautifully furnished and had everything we needed for our stay ,plus some lovely extras such a homemade cake on arrival and duck eggs for breakfast! No amenities in the village but perfect base for us to visit CarlisRead morele, Keswick, Grasmere, Scotland! Would enjoy a return visit and no hesitation in recommending this lovely place! Hide

This cottage is clean, comfortable and spacious. Plenty of crockery and cutlery in the kitchen. Beautiful view over the Solway Firth to Scotland. The Victoria sponge was excellent too.

A great place to escape from it all. Fantastic views from the garden to enjoy after a day exploring the area. Eileen and Richard are great hosts and made us feel extremely welcome. Will definitely use it again for a stay in the area.

Not long back from a wonderful week at Lily Cottage. The house is spacious and thoughtfully decorated. 5 adults and a dog stayed comfortable. The cottage is perfectly located in a quiet village, close Carlisle for amenities and on the doorstep of the lake district so plenty to explore. The highlight of the cottage is the magnificent garden with vieRead morews across the Solway to Scotland. We spent every evening sitting in one of the cozy seating areas enjoying the swallows flying overhead, keeping a look out for the barn owl on the hunt. The dog enjoyed meeting the ducks and watching them waddle around the garden. Eileen and Richard spoilt us throughout the stay, its wonderful having them close by for chats and village lore. We will definitely be back in the future!! Hide
