Ideal for active families needing outdoor space to play, countryside to roam and nearby attractions to visit, this light-filled cottage caters ably to groups with room for everyone to spread out. You’ll be close to local amenities with a shop and pub within 200 metres, but as the area is filled with wonderful opportunities for outings it’s well worth venturing further afield. Take a day out to Hawkshead (11 miles) where you can cycle through the woodland of Grizedale Forest and go fishing at the trout farm. Drive 7 miles to Coniston Water, where you can board a steam yacht gondola or hire a boat, stopping at the town’s museum on the way back. Explore the independent shops of Grasmere (4 miles), Windermere (9 miles) and Bowness (10 miles). Riding and pony trekking centres can be found within 13 miles, along with an 18-hole golf course.

Entering through the porch (great for removing muddy walking boots after an invigorating hike), the ground floor features an expansive multi-aspect lounge/dining room/kitchen area. Here you can relax on the comfortable seating with a Blu-ray movie, cook in the charming kitchen whilst another member of your party is perched on a bar stool opposite or share meals together at the dining table – this can be opened out to accommodate up to 14 guests. The ground floor also has a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a separate shower room too. On the first floor are four bedrooms: a king room with an en-suite shower room, a second king enjoying garden views, one twin room (with beds 10cm longer than standard) and finally, a lovely bunk bedroom. There’s a charming family bathroom on this level too.

The garden, accessed via a patio door in the dining area, extends to the rear and side. Enclosed with hedges and fencing, it has shrubbery, trees, an area of lawn, and a patio area with furniture for sociable summer dining.

This is the perfect pet friendly property for a large family stay. The layout of the house, garden and driveway was spot on with excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities - could have stayed forever if only!

this property is in a prime spot, however make sure you close the gates and secure with a stone as the sheep are rather cheeky and head butt the gates until they open. One negative was cars parking opposite the gates making it rather difficult getting out. However, this property has everything needed, the garden is great for children and secure fRead moreor dogs, just watch out for the sheep poo Would book this cottage again for the family holiday in the lakes Hide

Lovely property, spotlessly clean. Great location for walks, with shop and pub a stones throw away.

2nd time we have been to Oakdene House, we all love, big garden, plenty of comfortable space in the lounge. It ticks all our boxes and will be there next year.

Really enjoyed the holiday, only comment I would make to improve the property is to install some outside lighting at the back of the property, as you couldnt see a thing when you let the dogs out on a night.

Lovely place, very clean, perfect base for the Lake District. Nice essentials in welcome pack. Some basics such as salt, pepper, cling film, foil, etc would be really useful. Car charger very useful as this was our first holiday with an electric car. Very comfortable bed. As far as the property is concerned, Id have no problem to recommend. The cRead moreompany was very efficient with notifications, etc so that was much appreciated. Thank you. My only reluctance to recommend Original Cottages as a company is the lack of cancellation scale. Every other holiday cottage Ive booked has had a percentage scale for cancellations. We booked with a 100 deposit but did not notice in the T&Cs that, regardless, youre liable for the full holiday amount, even if you need to cancel months in advance. This seems very one sided and unfair as a contract, particularly as even if the property is re-let, the refund is only given at the companys discretion. Ive never had to cancel but Ive always been happier with the peace of mind that there is a sliding scale. Hide
