Enjoying a fabulous location near the southern shores of Windermere, this characterful family property makes a wonderful getaway for up to six guests and is a great base for activities including boat trips and water sports. Set on the outskirts of Newby Bridge, this inviting getaway provides fresh, light and cosy accommodation for families and friends exploring the spellbinding southern reaches of the Lake District. The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway runs past the back garden, giving you a chance to see the steam trains as they pass by.

Entering the property the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner provides a welcoming space for everyone to get together and settle back. You can snuggle up, watch a movie on the Smart TV or chat about the day’s events in the light and airy lounge, while the sociable dining area is perfect for getting together to cook and share your favourite dishes which you can prepare in the tastefully designed kitchen. The ground floor also has a charming snug with seating and a Smart TV, which overlooks the garden where you can spot an array of wildlife including occasional pheasants. The first floor offers a stylish shower room, a cosy double bedroom and a delightful bunk bedroom. Finally, there’s a sweet double room on the second floor with a low ceiling, a skylight and desk. Outside, the back garden has a bistro set providing a lovely space for breakfast. The patio at the end of the garden is a relaxing suntrap where you can watch the steam trains chugging along.

Newby Bridge has opportunities for kayaking, sailing and trips by steamer across Windermere. Among the many local attractions are the stunning park of Fell Foot, Grizedale Forest, Beatrix Potter’s house at Hill Top, Coniston Water, Predator Experience and the Lakeland Motor Museum (all within 10 miles).

Fab cottage in a great location for getting around. The whole place was really well equipped and very comfortable. Everything has been well thought out and we would certainly recommend it for a relaxing break. Especially if you like trains!

The Dinky Railway cottage was lovely and clean in a quiet location. The only downside is we took our 2 dogs and the enclosed patio area isn't right out the door, dogs will need to be placed on a lead to go to the patio which only has a low gate, medium and larger dogs would be able to jump over and there now a fair few weeds. We were very fortunate to have lovely weather, but I think even if this hadn't been the case this cosy cottage would have been very welcoming. The position was perfect, with walks on the doorstep, or a train or boat ride moments away. We all enjoyed not using the car very much. We all loved watching the steam trains pass by during the day. Dinky Cottage is lovely! The cottage had everything we needed. The steam train which literally runs past the end of the garden was a delight!! We had a fabulous week, Newby Bridge is a great location to explore the Lakes. Would definitely recommend.
