This 19th-century property has been converted from a church reading room to a holiday home with contemporary comforts and original features. Potter around Thornthwaite village where you’ll find an art gallery with local artworks, and a tearoom with homemade treats. Follow the footpath from the village up to Comb Beck and Whinlatter Forest which has abundant walks, mountain bike trails, and tree-top adventures. Discover independent shops, markets and heritage attractions in the Georgian town of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth (11 miles), and Keswick (3.5 miles), the ‘adventure capital of the Lake District’. Meet meerkats, lemurs and pandas at the Lake District Wildlife Park in Bassenthwaite (6 miles). Or discover Senhouse Roman museum in coastal Maryport (17.5 miles).

Step inside this contemporary country-style cottage and store coats and shoes in the hallway before settling into cosy sofas in the bright and airy living room with high ceilings, large sash windows and cosy wood burning stove - watch favourite programmes or listen to music on the Smart TV and DVD player, and Samsung Bluetooth speaker. The well-equipped kitchen is split-level with a utility area on a higher level towards the rear (with a fridge/freezer and washer/dryer). The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, toaster, and ample storage space. Dine under the archway between the living room and the kitchen and catch up on the day’s adventures. Downstairs, there’s a convenient cloakroom with a WC. Between the living room, and utility area, there’s also a bright and cosy snug room with a garden views, an ornamental fireplace, armchairs, a bean bag, and a Smart TV with Wii - a great hangout for older children (note: there’s a step between the living room and the snug). Head upstairs and admire the views towards Skiddaw from the landing corridor which leads to the family bathroom with a shower over the bath, and WC. There are also three beautifully furnished bedrooms with ample storage space: a king-size bedroom with country views; a double bedroom with views towards the village and forest; and a single bedroom with valley views.

Step outside from the kitchen which leads towards the enclosed west-facing courtyard garden at the front of the property; there’s a gravelled seating area and a pretty garden border with plants, flowers, and woodland views. On-road parking is available outside the cottage, and there’s a shop and a pub with food nearby.

It was moldy, wet on the walls, there was dust under the beds. The atmosphere in the hallway was old.

Lovely cottage, at the foot of Whinlatter forest. Perfect location for commute to Keswick and easy access to major roads. Parking could be tricky during peak season, but we managed with one car. Lovely gallery/coffee shop just down the road. Everything catered for in the property, with very comfy sofas and the extra snug with more seating was lovelRead morey. Bedding and towels were of exceptional quality. Wed definitely stay again!! (Do take tea/coffee n sugar, as none provided) Hide

Comfortable cottage in a great location. There are many walks and attractions close by. Unfortunately there is very limited roadside parking outside the property and it is on a first come first served basis.

Lovely location for a Lake District holiday. Unfortunately we had several relatively minor issues with equipment and needed to contact the help desk during the week. Not all problems could be resolved, although the staff at the help desk were understanding and apologetic about the situation. The cottage felt a little damp and there were water stainRead mores on one wall. Sadly overall, we felt the cottage was a little tired, worn out and unloved. Hide

Wysal House is comfortable and tastefully furnished. The bedrooms and sitting room are spacious, considering the size of the cottage and having a downstairs toilet is useful. It's easy to walk from the door and it is also well located for getting to Braithwaite and Keswick.
