Make the 10-mile trip to Whinlatter Forest Park where a plethora of mountain bike trails await. You can also entertain adrenaline seekers here with a trip to Go Ape!. On the way home, stop off in Keswick (6 miles) for a bite to eat or spend the day here and visit the attractions, which include a pair of museums, before boarding a boat to cruise across Derwentwater. A 4.5-mile walk from your door, Dodd Fell is a gentle climb rewarded with panoramic views reaching far and wide. Treat yourself with a meal at the pub here and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife on the way up. Bassenthwaite village is 1.5 miles away and has a lovely pub that welcomes children and dogs.

Head inside this welcoming home and enjoy spending time relaxing in lounge with inviting sofas and chairs, and a Smart TV, find plenty to keep you entertained on nights in, and stay warm beside the wood burner. If you fancy somewhere quiet to sit and read a book, make your way to the sun room, which shares its space with the kitchen/diner. Enjoy the long, verdant views and make use of the telescope on clear nights in the play room, which doubles up as a children’s room with beanbags, and a wall-mounted TV . It boasts fantastic views to Bassenthwaite, too. The cottage-style kitchen is equipped with five-ring gas hob, built-in double range oven, microwave, dishwasher and large fridge with freezer compartment. Serve up at the breakfast bar, which doubles up as a kitchen island, and enjoy eating together and admiring the views. If you need to dry clothes throughout your stay, utilise the clothes airer, iron and ironing board, which can be found in the laundry room. There is a useful WC on the ground floor as well as a games room with table tennis. Climb the stairs to the first floor, where there’s a super-king-size bedroom with gorgeous views and an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. There are two more king-size bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms – one with shower only, one with separate shower and bath. The final bedroom has twin beds. A family bathroom with shower completes the first floor.

Spend time in the great outdoors and enjoy a tipple on the deck, which has comfortable outdoor furniture. There is more room to sit outside to the front of the home, and lovely communal gardens. The garden is unenclosed so take care with little ones and dogs. There is parking for up to four cars under the archway just before the property.

Parkergate Farmhouse is a fantastic property in beautiful surroundings with stunning views. The accommodation was perfect for our family group with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. We enjoyed our stay in this sizeable and well located old farmhouse. It was well equipped and clean with lovely views. It was also surprisingly easy to keep warm. It is a little tired and in need of updating in parts. but we would recommend it as it was comfortable and suited our group of 6 very well.

Great house for our family get together. We were 4 couples with a toddler and it is so well equipped! We did come dine with me evenings and had every utensil and pan needed! The beds are super comfy and there is loads of space. Its also lovely and warm - which was essential after days in the outdoors.

Sadly the coffee machine was broken. The creamer didnt heat the milk. We have one at home and we were very disappointed. The house was clean and spacious and we enjoyed our stay. I also hope the leak in the bathroom has been stopped as someone could slip if it gets much worse. Best wishes Sue Pickering

Gorgeous property throughout and plenty of space. The games room is a brilliant asset! Amazing views from the rear of the cottage and lovely grounds. The property is right on the road though, although there was only 1 night where late night farm machinery disturbed us a bit as we had the window open due to the hot weather! Highly recommend The PheaRead moresant Inn nearby for a meal. Amazing steak and great value. Hide

Pretty much the perfect cottage. The glorious weather helped of course. Lovely terrace to sit and watch the sun go down. Well-equipped kitchen. Lots of room. Comfortable beds. Well positioned for Skiddaw, Dodd and Latrigg etc. Hotel bar just down the road is good and pub suppers at The Sun are good and hearty.
