Here you will find a clutch of excellent inns, cafes and restaurants including a Michelin star awarded restaurants. Set out on foot to follow one of the many walking routes in the area, which take in Hampsfell and Eggerslack Wood and the Lake District Mountains. Or why not rest your feet and hop on the Lake Windermere steamer, which winds its way for ten miles into the central fells, passing Bowness and Sawrey along the way.

The front door opens into a large hall, which steps down to the welcoming living areas. With plump sofas, a roaring wood burning stove (guests to provide their own logs), exposed ceiling beams and cosy rugs, the lounge is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day outside. The kitchen is light and airy with a door leading out to the walled garden, while the conservatory is home to the dining area with riverside views. Upstairs there are two comfortable king-size bedrooms, both beautifully decorated with antique furnishings and charming ornaments. The bedrooms share a stylish contemporary bathroom with shower over bath.

Outside, to the front of the property, a small terraced area overlooks the river  and meadow beyond. To the rear of the cottage is a lovely walled garden, such a private and delightful setting to enjoy  the  fantastic garden pod which has a heater in so you can enjoy the outdoors all year round,  and a mini fridge to keep your choice of beverage cool too, there is also a table and chairs for enjoying al fresco meals that you can cook on the brilliant Kadai fire bowl and grill, the fire bowl can be lowered on to another frame if desired, so ingenious A small iron bridge crosses over to the opposite side of the river where there is a small private riverside bank for enjoying peaceful picnics surrounded by nature.

We appreciated the gifts you left for us. The cottage was beautifully situated on the river. Everything was homely which people like when staying on holiday. We didnt spend much time in the garden but it was great for people who like to sit out in the evening with a drink and food. (The weather was a bit against us). We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage was lovely, very central just opposite LEnclume restaurant. Lots of dog friendly pubs and the race course with little walks off it was just around the corner. At the weekend there was live music and pizza at Unsworths Yard which we really enjoyed. The cottage was really clean and comfortable with lovely viewsRead more of the river from the dining area. A great little welcome basket too. We had great weather as well so couldnt have been better, thank you! Hide

It's a lovely cottage in a beautiful place. Lots of places to visit, helped by great weather. The venues in Unsworth's yard are well worth a visit for some great cheese, beer and bread. The bedrooms need a bit of tlc. Parking is very difficult. Don't expect to be able to park outside the cottage. Staff from L'enclume arrive at 7.30am taking all theRead more spaces and leave their cars until midnight. They completely ignore the parking restrictions, and nobody has a parking permit. Hide

The cottage was in a very nice position in the village next to the running stream but the cottage itself is a little on the tired side in certain rooms. The parking even with a permit was a bit of a nightmare to get parked , had to park and pay on two days as there was no where to park nesr the cottage .

Fantastic cottage in a great location for Cartmel village. The front and back gardens are nice for relaxing in summer and we imagine that the cottage would be lovely in winter with the log burner on. Lots of great eating and drinking spots in Cartmel (at least 6 pubs within 5 minutes walk from the cottage) and some nice walks directly from the doorRead more.
