Situated in a peaceful location at the north-east head of Coniston Water, this gorgeous cottage promises an idyllic stay for couples. Spend the day walking around the trails to the peak of the Old Man of Coniston (3 miles) before stopping in one of the local pubs up to 2 miles from the cottage for a drink and a bite to eat. With beautiful original features and complementary decor, this property is perfect for returning to after a long day exploring this stunning part of the Lake District.

As soon as you step in through the oak front door, you’ll feel the warm welcome of this pretty cottage. Exposed beams and peaceful neutral tones make the perfect blend of the traditional and the contemporary; sleek appliances and a stunning dark tiled floor in the kitchen diner match seamlessly with the rustic dining table and chairs. Upstairs, comfortable sofas and soft lighting in the lounge beckon you to curl up in front of the wood burner in the evening with a good book. But if it’s warm enough, spend nights out on the front patio, sizzling up a BBQ and dining alfresco.

Make sure you take a romantic trip on the National Trust’s Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston Water (2.5 miles) before you take a stroll around the many footpaths to experience nature up close. England’s largest lake, Windermere (10 miles), is one of the most popular places to visit in the Lake District but is worth it for the breathtaking views. The charming village of Kendal is a haven for foodies with lots of cafes and restaurants – make sure you taste some Kendal mint cake while you’re there! If gingerbread is more your thing, there’s a famous shop in Grasmere (10 miles) that must not be missed.

A nice spacious cottage but the grassed area shown on the photos to the left of the door is actually the neighbors garden so is not accessible therefore the outside space is quite restricted. Parking is not ideal due to the road alongside the cottage being quite narrow however we did manage with a medium sized car (Volvo V60). The shower is an inteRead moreresting experience, make sure you set the water temperature before you get in. There is very little space to store foodstuff other than in the fridge Hide

Overall we loved the stay we had in your cottage , it could have done with a better clean before we arrived but we know its a country cottage and spiders are a part of this. We loved the quiet location and its handyness for walking and driving to other areas

Our third stay at The Dairy. Very comfy and cosy little cottage, well equipped, quiet and romantic. Super comfy bed! The location is perfect for walks, and Coniston village and Brantwood House (and cafe) are only a 20-25 minute stroll away, so we didn't need to drive every day which was great. Having stayed at various cottages and locations in the Read moreLake District over the years, this is very much our favourite. Recommend The Black Bull pub for meals too! Hide

Lovely holiday at The Dairy, which started well with a very thoughtful box of welcome treats. Very comfortable, cosy and characterful. The decoration and furnishings were pleasingly unfussy, good quality and just as you would expect from the photos. The footpath just up the road behind the house made the walk into the village very pleasant. I wouldRead more happily stay again if we return to Coniston. Hide

The Old Dairy is in a delightful location an it was cosy and comfortable up to a point. The bed especially was good. However, the main room lacks lighting and the furniture is a bit firm. The chairs in the kitchen are uncomfortable.

This cottage is not 5 star. It is tired and needs some TLC. Three of the radiators were not working when we arrived on the Saturday and it took until Wednesday afternoon to fix them. The bathroom sink tap broke (this was fixed immediately). There was soot and debris in the hearth and on the carpet in the bedroom which was not cleaned up and a damp Read morepatch in the bedroom ceiling. There are better properties available for the money. And the parking is tight if you have a larger vehicle. Hide

Very cosy cottage. The weather was wet for most of the week so the wood-burning stove was a real bonus! There are walks from the cottage & plenty to explore in the surrounding area.

We were very pleased with with all aspects of the cottage and had a wonderful stay. However the television was problematical throughout our stay with constant loss of signal which was frustrating. Other than that we would highly recommend it. From previous reviews I was a little concerned about parking, but it was not a problem for our Yeti which iRead mores not a small car, I would recommend not parking to close to bin porch so that you are opposite the small pull in. Perfect location, had everything you could need! Very lovely cottage with comfortable bed, good shower and such a peaceful location, would definitely come back! There isnt anywhere to let the dog off the lead safely outside of the cottage bar a very small concrete area due to the other properties being private but there are grassy verges on the roaRead mored. Can get quite warm due to the heating not turning off, so imagine its nice and cosy in the winter months. Will be returning :) Hide

The cottage is clean, warm and comfortable and well equipped. The welcome pack and cleaning pack were very useful. Parking is very tight even for a small or medium car and our dog had to be excercised off the property but There are plenty of walks in the vicinity and we had a lovely holiday and perfect autumnal weather.

The Dairy is a lovely, well-situated and well-equipped cottage, and really spacious compared with other 1-bedroom options.
