Nestled amongst sweeping countryside just 1 mile from the quintessential village of Coniston, this traditional cottage is an idyllic base for outdoor enthusiasts. Brimming with character and sleeping four guests across two pretty bedrooms, the property is bursting with home comforts such as exposed beams and a welcoming open fire. Discover your surroundings on foot, by bike, or even by boat – taking to the tranquil waters to enjoy a gentle cruise on Coniston Water.

Step back in time from the moment you descend the stone stairs and head inside, noting the beamed ceiling and flagstone floors. The open-plan living space is kept toasty thanks to the open fire, and it has everything you need to unwind in style. Pop on a film, grab the snacks and settle down for a cosy film evening, rounding off with a sumptuous supper around the table. Prepare family feasts in the cheerful kitchen area; in the summer, the garden is a great spot for al fresco dining with a view. Upstairs, the main bathroom has a gorgeous corner bath perfect for long soaks, and you’ll have a choice of two bedrooms – a comfortable first-floor king-size, and a quirky second-floor twin in the eaves of the house. There is parking for one car, but additional space is available nearby, subject to availability.

Satisfy your inner explorer and set off to investigate the scenic trails leading from your doorstep, perhaps venturing to the summit of the ‘Old Man of Coniston’, or staying firmly at sea level with a stroll around the lake. You may recognise Coniston Water for being the site of the ill-fated ‘Bluebird’, but it is also known for its popular village. The village features pretty shops, tearooms and even a fantastic pub/brewery, which attracts beer enthusiasts from all over the UK.

Park Gate Cottage is wonderful cottage. It is very clean, has a well equipped kitchen and easy to keep warm. A lovely, cosy, warm cottage. A nice bathroom. The stairs to the first floor we very steep, however, they were carpeted, and we were able to keep our dog downstairs thanks to the door in front of the staircase. The small enclosed garden helped with the dog. The owners were very helpful when we had a couple of queries. Nice neighbours. The cottage iRead mores situated in a lovely, quiet spot. Lovely clean cottage for our family of three. The house itself is ideal for returning to after a long walk and the location is perfect for all walks around coniston without the need to drive out first. Highly recommended.

Bit disappointing, as had lot of good reviews. The living area is very small, just big enough for 2 of us and a lab, wouldnt want to share it with another 2 adults. Stairs to first floor very steep and narrow tread so had to come down sideways. Neighbours door is at 90degrees to kitchen window so not very private, also the constant comings and goinRead moregs meant our dog barked every time he saw someone at the window. Its an old cottage and everything inside felt a bit old. Hide

This is a beautiful little place - 2 good sized bedrooms as described with modern bathroom. There is a well equipped kitchen, although remember your own tea and coffee! We found it was a perfect distance from a Coniston with nice walk into town or quick drive.

We (3 adults and a 12 y-o) had a lovely stay - the cottage had pretty much everything. We didn't need to use the car on several days, walking up to the fells and to Coniston from the door. Cottage has a great collection of books about Lakeland villages and walks along with maps. Great base for Lakeland holiday.
