Windermere is to the north-east (4 miles), with Coniston Water (6 miles) and Esthwaite Water (9.5 miles) to the north. Heading south, the village of Cartmel (9 miles) has a range of boutique shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as a medieval priory, heritage centre and plenty of charm. The thriving town of Ulverston is within easy reach (6 miles).
