Set in an elevated position in the heart of a thriving Lakeland town, this beautiful, detached cottage makes a romantic, cosy and relaxing couple’s retreat. With stunning views over Ambleside and towards Loughrigg, this idyllic getaway is less than a mile from the spectacular northern shores of Windermere. This traditional cottage has been imaginatively updated and retains many original features including exposed oak beams and stonework. Within easy reach of Ambleside’s many thriving restaurants, shops and pubs, this tranquil cottage is perfect for keen walkers and hikers discovering the breathtaking surrounding countryside.

This beautiful stone-built property is reached via a steep access drive and a long flight of external steeps passing under a stone archway and up to a level patio area with glorious views. The spacious lounge/diner features a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, a traditional Lakeland stone wall, a wood burner-effect gas fire set on a slate hearth, and a picture window with superb views towards Loughrigg. The cottage also offers a stylish and fully equipped kitchen, a charming mezzanine with chaise longue, and a light, tastefully decorated king-size bedroom with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and far-reaching views. Heading outside, the shared patio area has outdoor furniture and spectacular views across the fells.

This is a fantastic base for discovering many of the region’s spellbinding lakes, with Windermere immediately to the south, Thirlmere (8 miles) and Ullswater (15 miles) to the north, and the smaller lakes of Rydal Water (2 miles) and Grasmere (3 miles) to the north-west. The cottage is ideally placed for climbers exploring the Eastern Fells, with nearby peaks including Red Screes, Fairfield Peak, Stoney Cove Pike and Helvellyn (all within 10 miles). Also within easy reach is the popular village of Coniston (8 miles) at the head of Coniston Water.

The lovely cottage was very clean and fully equipped. It's in an ideal quiet location, but still very near the shops and bars/restaurants of Ambleside. Having a car park pass was a real bonus. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom towels very soft. Would highly recommend this cottage and we hope to return again in the future.

It was our second visit to North Cottage, but the cleanliness and equipment wasnt as good as before.
