On the north-west outskirts of the Lake District, Cockermouth is a market town designated a ‘Gem’ town, meaning it has a recommendation for preserving its national heritage. It’s located on the confluence of two rivers, the Cocker and the Derwent, each flowing from different lakes in the North and South Lakes. The town itself is home to the birthplace of William and Dorothy Wordsworth, and their home is now part of the National Trust and open to visitors.

Its location on the main A-road around the Lake District means travelling around the area and to nearby towns is easy, such as the market town of Keswick, the coastal village of Allonby and, even further south, Ravenglass is under an hour away.
