Please note it is best to use these written directions rather than trusting to “Sat Nav” or “Google” directions as these can often bring you into the area on a convoluted route causing confusion, not the easiest start to your holiday.
Coming from the M6: Leave the M6 at junction 40. Take the A66 towards Keswick and after approximately ten miles you will pass a signpost for Wallthwaite. A mile on there is a sign on the left for a parking bay. Continue past the parking bay after which there is a sign for another parking bay. Take the next left turn before the second parking bay. (OS Grid Refererence 339 259. Just after this turn the White Horse Inn Pub is on your right. If you miss this turn follow the instructions in the next paragraph.) Follow this road for approximately three hundred yards and then take the first right. Follow this lane for just under half a mile crossing over the little stone bridge, then take the first right. Follow this lane for approximately one mile which leads into the hamlet of Guardhouse. There is a small cluster of properties on the left, and the gateway to Wrens is on the left (you cannot see the property from the road) immediately before a more pebble dash barn conversion. The drive slopes up away from the road, please drive through the five bar gate and park in Wrens driveway.
If you miss the left hand turn before the White Horse Inn you can carry on until you see the signpost for Guardhouse. Turn left and follow the lane into the hamlet, going through 3 sets of gates. If these are closed please return them to the closed position after passing through. As you enter Guardhouse you will pass Swallow Barn, Guardhouse Cottage, the Pebbledash Barn Cottage immediately after which is the gate to Wrens.
Coming from the A66: Follow the A66 towards Penrith. Approximately 4 miles after Keswick you will pass Threlkeld. After passing the golf course on the right look out for the signpost for Guardhouse after which, take the first right and following the directions in the paragraph above.
