Townson Ground House

Set in the heart of the Lake District, the Townson Ground Estate lies near the north east shores of Coniston Water, offering easy access to the many areas of shoreline open to the public, along with excellent walks and a nearby village. Townson Ground lies at the north east head of Coniston Water, one of a group of six adjoining, individually owned houses and cottages.

The village of Coniston lies about a mile and half around the lake, offering shops, cafes and a number of good pubs serving locally brewed ale.

The history of the house dates back to 1547 when the house was first built by the monks of Furness Abbey and much of the original structure remains, with later Victorian additions.

Living Spaces

From a sunny private garden to the front of the house you enter into the sitting room. Light streams through sash windows, where to one end is an open fire and the other a log burning stove, with sofas and chairs drawn around each, giving a cosy space to relax. From here you step down into the dining room, the long table ideal for grand meals and dinner conversation.

A corridor connects the sitting room, dining room and kitchen with a small lobby for hats coats and boots. The kitchen, with under floor heating is large and well equipped, designed for catering for large parties.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

From the sitting room stairs lead up and divide to the bedroom floors. There are a mix of double, twin and bunk bedded rooms. All are comfortable, most with en -suite bath or shower rooms, save the bunk rooms which share a common small shower room with basin and WC.There is a further first floor separate WC.

Garden Spaces

The garden lies to the front of the house, a sunny grassed area bordered by a stone wall, plants and shrubs. Perfect to relax or barbecue, with a view through trees to the coniston mountain range.

The combination of a fine house, perfect location and lakeside fun make Townson Ground ideal to gather your family or friends for reunion and celebration.

Out & About

Coniston Water, the village and the Old Man are three icons of the Lake District. Set in the very heart of the National Park this area has been a long time favourite for walkers, climbers along with those that prefer a gentler, more relaxed holiday.

The village offers shops, inns and cafes and at the boating centre you can hire boats to take out onto the water, or take a trip on the lake cruisers or the ridiculously beautiful steam yacht Gondola.

The mountain is climbable by any reasonably fit person, with well-marked tracks to the summit. Even if you only go part way the view will be memorable.

East of the lake is the huge Grizedale Forest. A centre for all things woodland, there are trails that take you on a nine mile route, where on the way you can spot the many sculptures created by resident and visiting artists. At the visitor centre bikes can be hired for mountain biking, and at Go-Ape, the tree top assault course, you can find your inner Tarzan.
