This delightful cottage is the perfect hideaway for two. Set in the grounds of a beautiful guest house, this property is an opportunity to spend time together among stunning surroundings; if you visit in the summer, the area is a sun-drenched blend of green and yellow ochre meadows and orchards. With a pub just 325 metres away and Kendal just 5.5 miles in the car, you’ll never go hungry or find yourself without a place to have a well-deserved drink after a walk; you could also enjoy your own al fresco drink in the shared terraced garden as you look out towards the distant Whitbarrow Scar and Cartmel Fell.
There’s plenty of rustic charm in this little cottage that has an open-plan style to create a sociable space. Cook up delicious meals for you both in the compact kitchen and dine beside the roaring wood burner among exposed beams, thoughtful furnishings and soft lighting. Curl up together on the sofa in front of the TV; bring some of your favourite DVDs to play on chilly evenings. Climb the stairs to the bathroom and enjoy an indulgent soak in the bath among peaceful blue tones before snuggling into bed in the tranquil bedroom.
This area is well-known for growing damsons and you’ll be able to find them directly from the cottage. Two 1.5-mile walks start from the centre of the village (325 metres) and take you to Starnthwaite and Crosthwaite Mill. The 9-mile Lord’s Lot walk also begins in the village and leads you through superb countryside with brilliant views of the Kent estuary. If you’re more of an ambler than a wanderer, stroll the streets of Kendal (5.5 miles) where you’ll find plenty of independent shops to peruse and cafes to stop for a bite to eat.
