If your perfect holiday is to be by water then Tinkler Beck Cottage may be for you. With its lake shores and views of the mountain, this is possibly the finest location in the Lake District...

One of five holiday homes overlooking Coniston Water, guests can enjoy the private lake shore and jetties, swim, fish or simply picnic and paddle - perfection...

Tinkler Beck Cottage

The Estate & Lake

Tinkler Beck Cottage is one of 2 adjoining holiday cottages located on the North East tip of Coniston Water, about 1.5 miles walk to village. Along with 3 other adjacent holiday properties and a row of traditional stone outbuildings, the cottages are set around a triangular courtyard on a small country estate and enjoy access to the estates private lakeshore and jetties.

The area was much favoured by such literary lights as Tennyson, Turner and later Arthur Ransome, author of the much-loved children’s series of novels The Swallows & Amazons. Each drew inspiration from the surrounds where the views give a deep sense of the power and beauty of the Lake District landscape. Today each cottage offers guests the perfect destination set in one of the finest locations in the central Lake District, where the view is filled by the high peaks of Coniston’s mountain range, reflected in deep waters.

There are three jetties, which for a small fee guests may moor their own boats or hire rowing, sailing or powered boats from the Coniston Boating Centre. With eight hundred yards of shoreline to explore and the whole lake to muck about on, in and by, you have the ideal recipe for the perfect Lakeland holiday.

Tinkler Beck Cottage, the property to the right in the main image, and to the left the adjoining Tinkler Beck Farm, are both situated on the west side of the lane above the lake. Set around a central courtyard, opposite a row of three other cottages, each is much envied for a fabulous position so close to the lake. For me it is the combination of style and comfort, coupled with magnificent surroundings in which to both relax and play, that makes this a very special holiday home and as such has been recognised by Visit England with a five Star award.

The Living Spaces

From the private patio garden entrance to the rear of the property, you step into a utility room leading to the large, light filled kitchen - dining room space. The kitchen area is fully fitted with all mod cons, where you will be able to rustle up light lunches and hearty dinners. As a space to dine it is perfect, with its long dining table, French doors and a picture window that looks out over the patio with views of the nearby lake and mountain.

From the kitchen a hall takes you through to the cosy sitting room. Three sofas sit around a roaring log burning stove, perfect to relax in summer or tuck up in winter with family and friends to pass away an evening, maybe with the latest block buster on the wide screen TV.

 Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor. The first is a comfortable King sized bedroom, where opposite is a separate downstairs WC. The second is a bunk bedroom. Located in the annexe across from the kitchen, it has full size single beds ideal for children, but will also suit adults. Contemporary in style it has a low sloping roof with views out to the main courtyard.

Upstairs to the first floor and you have a very pleasing twin bedroom. For bathing there is a shower room with basin and WC, a further separate WC and finally the master bathroom with whirlpool bath, overhead shower, basin and WC.

A further flight of stairs opens out into the attic double bedroom. It is as cosy as can be with a pitched ceiling and should offer sweet dreams.

Gardens Grounds & The Lake Shore

The grounds are fantastic. The courtyard is shared by the other cottages however to the rear of Tinkler Beck Cottage you have a delightful sunny patio, opening onto a large walled and grassed garden area, perfect for ball games and with a view to the lake and mountains.

From the main grounds, a short walk down the track takes you down to the lake shore where you can picnic and swim in the gentle water and, if required use of the three jetties to moor your own or hired boats.

All in all Tinkler Beck Cottage will offer the perfect holiday, offering guests that rare element of fine accommodation, views of our magnificent mountains, private lake access and all set in the heart of Cumbria’s Lake District.

Out & About

Coniston village sits at the northwest tip of Coniston Water, sheltered in the lea of the Coniston mountain range and in the very heart of the Lake District

One of our favourite lakes, much of the shore line is accessible to explore and, at the boating centre in the village you can hire all manner of boats from canoes to little motorboats.

The village is welcoming with shops, cafes and inns, the oldest the Black Bull, serving good pub grub and its own local brewed ales.

The big walk is to tackle Coniston Old Man. A true mountain it has easily defined tracks to the summit, where the reward is a spectacular view.

Running down the east shore of the lake is the Grizedale Forest. A day out in itself, the many paths and track take you on a 9 mile route under the canopy of ancient and new woodland, passing the many sculptures that have been created along the trail.

Your Say

Just a quick note to say what a wonderful time my family, friends and I had staying at Tinkler Beck Cottage - thank you very much. The cottage was just perfect, lots of space, well designed and appointed and in a wonderful setting - I was particularly impressed with the amount of secure space for the children to play in and they particularly enjoyed access to and being able to play in Lake Coniston. I will be recommending your company to my friends and look forward to visiting Tinkler Beck Cottage again.
