The Bothy

High Borrans lies a few miles east of Windermere, a small hamlet tucked between the valleys of Troutbeck and Kentmere. For walking it is a fine base, with access to fells for both moderate and long treks, with routes leading as far as Wansfell, High Street and Haweswater. A two mile walk brings you to the Watermill Inn at Ings, a fine traditional pub and a regular winner of the CAMRA best pub award, and short drive takes you to Windermere and Bowness where you have shops, inns, restaurants, cafes and the lake for boat hire and steamer trips. Closer to home the setting is peaceful and ideal for a relaxed stay.

The Living Space

This little bothy had been transformed into an exciting contemporary space and now with new owners Ann & Alastair enjoying their experience of upgrading for 2016, offering a quiet and special retreat for your stay in the Lake District.

The ground floor is open plan with timber floor and high ceiling.

The sitting room area has a plump leather sofa, table and chairs at which to dine, dimmable lighting to set the mood and a fabulous Ultra HD Smart TV with hard wired built in surround sound serving all the home entertainment equipment.

The kitchen area is fully equipped, easy to use and perfect for creating those light lunches and romantic dinners.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

The bathroom is a place to relax, with a large, sumptuous, deep double ended bath and wet room shower, to soak away aching muscles after a day on the fells.

The space saver stairs lead up to a compact and pretty mezzanine bedroom with bed delightfully set under the pitched roof.

This is a perfect holiday home for couples, where great thought has gone into the design and furnishings making it for me a very special place.

Garden Spaces

The little walled patio area is simply perfect, offering a private space to enjoy a drink or meal outside, catch the afternoon sun, watch sheep being herded down the lane and delight in the local wildlife including red squirrel.

The Location

High Borrans lies above the village of Ings, between the Kentmere and Troutbeck valleys, a few miles east of towns of Windermere and Bowness and Lake Windermere.

East lies the Kentmere Valley, an unspoiled area of natural beauty, and though popular with true walkers, remains peaceful. The River Kent flows through the valley floor with fells rising up from either side. West lies the Troutbeck Valley with its road snaking across high fell to the Kirkstone Pass and down into Patterdale and Ullswater.

From Ings you head on into the lakes where a short drive brings you to the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere set on the east shores of Lake Windermere, where Bowness is at the waters edge, with the town of Windermere set about a half mile away above the lake.

Guest Reviews

The Bothy is everything we hoped for and more. A perfect hide-away from life. We took the bikes on some great treks. Lots of chill out time. An ideal location for a weekend of nothingness. Just what we wanted. We will be back.
Pip & Paul, Cheltenham

We have had a wonderful honeymoon here. It's been white with snow the whole time and we got snowed in! A lovely warm and cosy cottage, everything we needed and more. I recommend it to anyone and can't wait to come back.
Philip and Sarah Page - London

The description and pictures on the internet didn't lie, it is definitely a very cosy cottage!  From the minute we walked in, we felt like home.  Thank you for welcoming us with a bottle of wine and some tasty chocolates but also for welcoming our little doggies with some nice dog biscuits!  We loved coming back to the Bothy after a long day of walking.  We had everything we needed.  It would be a pleasure to come back. See you soon.
