Please note it is best to use these written directions rather than trusting to “Sat Nav” or “Google” directions as these can often bring you into the area on a convoluted route causing confusion, not the easiest start to your holiday.

The cottage can be reached by either the south or the north route.

NORTH ROUTE - From the M6 at junction 36 take the A591 sign posted Kendal & Windermere. Continue on the A591 to Ambleside, then follow the A593 to Coniston • Upon reaching Coniston, cross the bridge in the centre of the village • Continue past the petrol station on the left then turn right at the cross roads onto Station Road continue up hill past both the Sun Hotel then Usher’s joinery on right. Take 2nd left onto The Banks, this is marked “unsuitable for long vehicles”, carry on up the hill onto Devonshire Terrace, continue to sign “Leading to Thurston Bank”, take sharp right turn to Thurston Bank. If in a larger car you can turn left then turn around just before the bridge and return back up to Thurston Bank.

You will find parking for No6 just before the terrace of cottages. To find the cottage walk down the alley to the end cottage.

Arrival time 4 p.m. - Departure time 10 a.m.

If arriving in the dark it is advisable to bring a torch.

NOTE: Once at the property an alternative route to and from Thurston Bank into Conison Village can be straight down the hill and turn left at the bottom.  Please note this is very steep with a sharp bend and is unsuitable for low-slung cars.
