Mountain View

Overview

Mountain View offers the perfect chic, cosy romantic retreat for two. The top floor of the original coach house, it lies in the grounds of the owners’ own home, Whitelands, located in the little hamlet of Blawith, all a short distance from the southern basin of Coniston Water.

Approached by a private tree lined drive, Whitelands is an oasis of peace and tranquillity; its grounds surrounded by meadow and low fell, with a backdrop of the Old Man Of Coniston rising in the distance.

The coach house sits opposite the main residence, where owners Grahame and Judith have created Mountain View, a wonderful space for their guests to enjoy their time in the Lake District, perfect for a base to explore the National Park, simply spend time relaxing with a very special view and will give you lasting memories of a very special holiday home - Perfect.

The Living Spaces

Once you have parked up you walk into the owners, formal grounds, where a few broad steps drop down the private entrance for Mountain View. From a small hall a stairway takes you to the first floor opening into the sitting room.

A truly delightful space, the room is filled with light streaming in from the wide glazed doors. Well-chosen contemporary furniture sits under a pitched roof offering style and comfort where, in winter months, the log-burning stove adds a cosiness to the ambience and come summer you can spill out on to the balcony, enjoy a drink or dine alfresco, all with a magnificent view to fill your gaze.

For lazy evenings in, you can tuck up with a movie on the Smart 4K TV with Bose Bluetooth surround sound, which offers a full Sky Q package, including sports and movies, Netflix or you can log into your own Amazon account along with connecting to music services such as Deezer and Spotify via you phone or tablet.

From the sitting room a hallway leads through to the small kitchen. Compact and well fitted, it has all you need to whizz up your favourite Jamie supper.

Back downstairs there is the utility-boot room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, along with an additional fridge-freezer. Ideal for drying your outdoor gear and storing all your bits and bobs, the room is also large enough to securely store a couple of bikes.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Further along and at the end of the hallway upstairs the bedroom is delightfully romantic, the furnishings perfect against a décor of muted colours, where the plump double bed will offer sweet dreams after a day exploring the lakes and fells. Waking to pastoral views filling the window the next morning.

The shower room is beautifully fitted with floor to ceiling tiles with hand basin, shower cubicle and WC.

Garden Spaces

For me the balcony is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast, relax with a drink or a have romantic candle lit supper. If you fancy a bit of serious outdoor cooking and dining you have your own little walled, stone paved patio, set to the far end of the coach house, with a gas barbecue along with garden table and chairs.

The Gym

The ground floor of the coach house has been fitted out as the owners own gym room, which you are welcome to use. Among the comprehensive equipment on offer is a water rowing machine, a bike machine, a Kettler compact multi-gym, along with a punch bag, a selection of weights and other keep fit gear. Please Note - If you do use the gym room and any of the equipment it is solely at your own risk. If you do not know how to use any of the equipment then to avoid accidents please do not do so - See inventory for full information on use of the Gym.

Out And About

The immediate area offers much to explore. Head a little north on the lake road and there are the Blawith Fells. Accessible for most they are a series of gently rolling hills with excellent views. If you follow a map you can find little Beacon Tarn, perfect for a picnic.

Over on the east shore is Near Peel Wood with its craggy outcrops and little coves, where just off the shoreline lies Peel Island, the inspiration for Wild Cat Island in Ransome's Swallows and Amazons. A beautiful place to explore and another favourite picnic spot.

Coniston village sits at the northwest tip of Coniston Water, sheltered in the lea of the Coniston mountain range and in the very heart of the Lake District. The village is welcoming with shops, cafes and inns, the oldest the Black Bull, serving good pub grub and its own local brewed ales.

At the boating centre you can hire all manner of boats from canoes to little motorboats and explore the lake from a different perspective.

The big walk is to tackle Coniston Old Man. A true mountain it has easily defined tracks to the summit, where the reward is a spectacular view.

Running down the east shore of the lake is the Grizedale Forest. A day out in itself, the many paths and track take you on a 9 mile route under the canopy of ancient and new woodland.
