Low Longthwaite Farm



Many think Ullswater to be the most beautiful of the all the lakes and if so, Low Longthwaite Farm has possibly one of the finest outlooks of lake and mountain in the northern lakes area. Set above the western shores of Ullswater, your view is filled by nearby meadow, a shimmering glint of water with a backdrop of fell and mountain, where the mood and atmosphere, colour and hue change with the time of year.

Low Longthwaite Farm, a 16th century detached farmhouse and barn, has been completely refurbished to offer guests a super house, set in the very heart of the Lake District. Views and a quality that has been recognised by Visit England with the 4 Star Gold Award make this farmhouse perfect for your Lakeland holiday. Approached by a private drive, the house sits in the fell above Ullswater, looking out over to the lake and mountains.


Living Spaces

From the front entrance you step into a spacious sitting room, with plump sofas set around a roaring log burning stove, adding that extra touch of warmth and ambience in winter. Come summer, light floods in through large windows, where the view is filled by lake and mountain.

Adjoining the sitting room is a dining area with a fine table, perfect for lazy lunches and long suppers well into the night.

There is a small snug with sofa bed and armchair. This can be used for *occasional guests, or may be just the ticket as the children’s den.

The kitchen is large, well equipped, with a breakfast table for six. Off the kitchen is a scullery with laundry facilities, a good storage area for boots and bits and, to the rear, the downstairs shower room with shower, basin and WC.


Bedrooms & Bathrooms

A fine, wide, winding staircase leads to the upper landing and the four bedrooms. Choose between two delightful doubles (both with king size beds), one room with en-suite shower, along with two twin bedded rooms. Finally upstairs is the master bathroom, well equipped with bath, large shower cubicle, basin and WC.


Garden Spaces

Outside the grounds surround the house and **barn. Across the private drive is a walled, meadow garden where the sun shines down all day and the view is perfect. To the rear of the house is a large graveled parking space.

For me the owners have provided the one of our best farm houses, both to simply just relax and holiday at, and as a base for exploring the magnificent countryside, lake and villages. Whether you come for holidays with family and friends, or are gathering for reunion or celebration, I am sure Low Longthwaite Farm will please, leaving you with many happy memories of your stay.



Out & About

Ullswater is considered by many to be our most beautiful lake. A nine-mile serpentine body of water, it snakes its way north under the lea of the most magnificent fells and mountain.

On the western shores lie the three villages. Patterdale and Glenridding lie to the south, with Pooley Bridge at the northern head. Between then they offer shops, cafes and inns, the latter serving excellent local brews.

Boats can be hired to get you out onto the water, alternatively take a trip on one of the threes steamers that cruise the lake.

There are walks to suit all abilities. The eastern shore has no road for much of its length, offering one of the best walks in the National Park. For the more adventurous there are some big fells along with the famous Helvellyn and the precipitous Striding Edge – please do take a good map and observe mountain safety guidelines.

All in all there is a much to see and do, both around the lake and nearby areas, towns and villages where to get the best from your visit it is well worth investing in a few good guides and maps.
