Garret House Cottage

Overview

Owner Ann has completely refurbished this delightful traditional Lake District cottage to a high standard, offering her guests a super stylish, cosy romantic retreat just for two.

Garret House Cottage lies just out from Cartmel village centre, overlooking the Cartmel Steeplechase Course, the smallest national hunt race course in the country. Cartmel is one of our most popular and sought after villages. Located on the peninsula, it lies just six miles south of Lake Windermere, a huddle of the most delightful period architecture it includes the magnificent Norman priory, an eclectic mix of specialist shops, along with a host of pubs, cafes and restaurants, among which is the UK’s top dining venue, Simon Rogan’s two Michelin star L’Enclume.

One of half a dozen little cottages, the view is over the race course and surrounding woodland, down to the village, resting on the great ridge of Hampsfell, with its famous limestone pavements.

Living Spaces

The front entrance leads into the open plan living space. The decor is bright and contemporary, designed for easy living and comfort. A comfy sofa and armchair are drawn to a log burning stove and to one corner is a little dining table for candlelit romantic suppers.

The kitchen area lies to the rear of the space. A large central workspace has a sleek, white quartz, Silestone worktop inset with a butler style sink. Quality equipment and accessories, including a Bosch oven and hob, will allow you to rustle up your favourite recipes, finishing with coffee courtesy of the Nespresso Coffee Machine & Aeroccino milk frother.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Stairs lead up to the first floor and the bedroom with its plump double bed, well chosen furniture, along with a wide screen TV. The shower room with underfloor heating is crisp and shiny with floor to ceiling tiles and a large walk in shower, along with basin and WC. All enhanced with complimentary luxury toiletries from the White Company.

Garden Spaces

At the front of the cottage is a little bench where you can sit in the sun with a valley view and, during race weeks, watch all of the action from your own private grandstand seat! To the rear of the cottage is a small patio garden and garden room. When the sun is shining it is perfect to relax with a drink or dine alfresco on balmy evenings.

All in all this is a delightful little cottage, where you can tuck up and relax, step out into the village to sample its fine cuisine, enjoy many excellent local walks and explore the whole of the magnificent Lake District National Park.

Out & About

One on the most picture perfect places in the Lake District, Cartmel has grown into a chic little village, wrapped up in the most delightful architecture of traditional lime washed and stone built houses, shops and pubs.

Centered on a delightful village square overlooked by the huge Normal priory, the village is a maze of little lanes and bridges crossing a sweet little river, cruised by fleets of ducks and swans.

For foodies it is a place of pilgrimage. Nice cafes compliment the four excellent pubs, with cherry on the proverbial cake being Simon Rogan’s two establishments, Rogan & Company, an easy-going bistro and the famed two Michelin star awarded L’Enclume, favourite of celebrities and voted the Good Food Guide’s No1 UK Restaurant.

There are plenty of easy walks from the village. A favourite is to climb high up onto Hampsfell with its panoramic views across the Morecambe Bay, then descend down to Grange Over Sands or explore the tracks running through Eggerslack Woods.

A great day out is to take a Segway off road tour. The offices are by the car park and the reviews so far from our guests make this a must for a bit of fun.
