Magnificent views of the Langdale Pikes

Carr Crag Cottage

Carr Crag Cottage lies just above Skelwith Bridge, between the villages of Coniston and Ambleside. The setting overlooks the Great Langdale Valley and its iconic mountain range, where your view from the grounds is filled by craggy mountain peaks. The private approach passes the three other houses on Carr Crag, ending at our cottage and its grounds.

Living Spaces

You enter into the sitting room and dining space. A large room with tiled floors set under a host of beams, it has pleasing decor and ornament, making it ideal to both relax and dine. To one end is a roaring log burning stove with deep bay windows set either side of the chimney breast, where you can simply sit and admire a spectacular view. The sofas are big and comfy, perfect to tuck up and chat, read a book or take in a movie on the wide screen TV.

From the sitting room, via a central hall, you go through to the kitchen. Simple, but well equipped, it has most mod cons to make for easy preparation of meals. Double doors lead into a large conservatory, which in turn opens out onto a raised deck. From here you will be able to sit and watch the varied wild life that visit the grounds and dine alfresco on a warm spring or summer evening.

Off the kitchen, in the hall, there is a good utility room with laundry equipment and adjoining this a downstairs WC with basin.

 Bedrooms & Bathrooms

From the hall stairs lead to the first floor. Here there are three bedrooms to choose from. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower along with perfect views of the mountains. The second double and the twin room are both very comfortable with views out to the gardens and grounds. All bedrooms enjoy the facility of a TV and Dab radio with Bluetooth.
The family bathroom has a corner bath, separate shower cubicle, basin and WC.

Garden Spaces

Surrounding the property are substantial grounds. Mainly grass with shrubs and trees this will be perfect for adults to relax and children to play.

The combination of a rare and superb setting, stunning views, along with easy access to all of the national park and the amenities of the nearby villages, makes Carr Crag the perfect choice for your holiday retreat, set in the very heart of the Lake District.

Out & About

Skelwith Bridge is a small cluster of traditional Lake District cottages and hotels, set around an attractive stone bridge spanning the River Brathay. Within a short drive are the main villages and towns of South Lakeland. Ambleside lies 10 minutes at the head of Lake Windermere, Coniston is 15 minutes on the north shores of Coniston Water and Grasmere lies north, and set by its iconic mere, and little Elterwater is at the head of the Langdale Valley.

From Skelwith Bridge there are some very good walks, and you only have to pick up a decent OS map to discover the many paths and trails. For example, the track along the river offers you an easy stroll where you will come to the dramatic Skelwith Force with its viewing platform set over the churning waters.

A big favourite is to strike out for Louhrigg Fell, passing Loughrigg Tarn on route. The walk can be extended to taking in Grasmere and Rydal Water, where you will see some of our most beautiful views with plenty of photo opportunities.

In summation Carr Crag Cottage lies just about in the middle of everything, where on all points of the compass you will find something to fill your days, whether it be enjoying the villages and relaxing, or exploring the wonderful natural beauty of the National Park.

Your Say

This is one of many visits to Carr Cragg and it just gets better. Can't wait for our next visit.

This was our third cottage with The Lakeland Cottage Company and yet again we were impressed with the quality and cleanliness. What an amaizng cottage in a great location with the best views ever. We had the weather on our side and spent many nights sat out with a glass of wine watching the sun set behind the Langdale Pikes - what can be better than that?! Some great walks near Elterwater, Chesters busy unless you get in early or late, great little tea shop. Swimming in Moss Eccles Tarn... First for the boys!
Fantastic, we hope to be back very soon.
Debbie & Mark

What a lovely house to spend New Year in. The house was always cosy and warm, hope to return in the summer.
