Campbell

Overview

Set in the heart of the Lake District, the Townson Ground Estate lies near the north east shores of Coniston Water, offering easy access to the many areas of shoreline open to the public, along with excellent walks and a nearby village.

Campbell is one of a group of six adjoining, individually owned houses and cottages. The village of Coniston lies about a mile and half around the lake, offering shops, cafes and a number of good pubs serving locally brewed ale and pub food.

Campbell adjoins Townson Ground House to one side, and Ruskin above. Approached from a spacious gravelled parking area you step down into the private slate shaled garden with flowering shrubs and patio area, with a slate table, directors chairs and parasol.

The Living Spaces

From the moment you step through the French doors you feel you can relax and enjoy your holiday, as owners Julia and Alan have endeavoured to cater to all your needs, with little extra touches to compliment your stay - a welcome tray with fine china and teapot, tea and coffee, biscuits, local fudge and bottle of wine await your arrival. Further the luxury of a Nespresso machine to make the perfect Cappuccino, Latte or Espresso to compliment your dining. For the festive weeks of Christmas and New Year the added complimentory welcome of Champagne, Proseco, wine and whisky

The sitting/dining room is decorated in warming golds and reds, where a large oak beam runs the length of the room. A leather sofa and armchair are drawn around the roaring wood burning stove, just perfect in colder months to tuck up and relax with a good book or catch a movie on the widescreen TV.

To the rear of the sitting room is a galley kitchen. Julia, who has spent many years in the catering industry has ensured that it is well equipped and supplied with a range of recipe books to delve into and explore, including Bill Grainger’s Holiday Recipes. To make quick delicious light meals for spring /summer alfresco dining, special meals for romantic evenings, frosty morning breakfasts or soul warming casseroles for those cosy autumn days. For those that enjoy baking take advantage of the Heston Blumenthal food processor and Julia's kitchen, all you need is there.

Finally enclosed in the private garden is a slate built utility room with laundry facilities where you can store bikes, wood, BBQ and garden furniture.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

All on the one level there are two bedrooms, a double and twin both comfortably furnished in restful creams and light colours with matching bedside lights, cushions and throws. The twin bedroom has the added charm of a door opening onto the garden area.

The bathroom, fully tiled with modern white wall and black floor tiles, has a bath with an overhead Mira electric shower, wall hung basin, and WC, complete with complimentary toiletries from the Sedergh Soap Company organic range.

Garden Space

The little garden area is perfect for sitting outside on sunny days, BBQs, and to relax with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine, enjoying the breathtaking views and beautiful sunsets over the dramatic backdrop of The Old Man of Coniston.

Campbell is an ideal retreat perfect for small families, or couples looking for a romantic retreat to explore all of Central Lakeland and the National Park.

Out & About

Coniston village sits in the very heart of the Lake District at the northwest tip of Coniston Water, sheltered in the lea of the Coniston mountain range. Radiating from the stone bridge, spanning Church Beck, the four main streets are a bustling community with a fine church, shops, a post office, cafes, a local brewery and five good pubs.

Coniston Water is one of the most people friendly lakes, with much of the shore and the whole lake open to the public. Famous as the backdrop and inspiration for Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons and Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell's world speed attempts, its wooded and grassy banks, along with the craggy coves and the deep clear water offer a habitat to a rich variety of flora and fauna. At the boating centre you can hire rowing boats, sailing dinghies, kayaks and canoes or my favorite, the small motorboats, perfect for a day out exploring the hidden bays and wooded coves.

There are plenty of low level walks and cycle trails. On the east side of Coniston water lies the Grizedale Forest. A vast working woodland, it is crisscrossed with paths and tracks for walking and mountain biking. The Forest is big into arts, commissioning fabulous statues and installations throughout. It is well worth driving via Hawkshead, around to the visitor centre for a forest map and information to get the best from your day out.

Your say

A fabulous little cottage style apartment, which was immaculately clean and was possibly the best equipped we have ever stayed in. The boot room was a tremendous facility for cleaning and drying our walking shoes. The cottage is in a lovely quiet location and the garden is a sun trap, sheltered and with amazing views. We had a wonderful time and we will be back in the near future. Thank you.

We had a super weekend. This cottage was beautifully furnished, extremely homely and comfortable. It was a very cold weekend but the place was cosy and warm. We will definitely return.

My boyfriend and I have been staying at Campbell Apartment twice per year for the last 4 years. There is so much to see and do including walking and cycling in Grizedale Forest (accessed within a 5 minute walk from the Cottage), cruises on Coniston Water, picnics, museums visits, afternoon teas or even a Spa day!  There is certainly no shortage of things to do and the provided information pack is very useful.  We find the location of Campbell is ideal, the perfect combination of tranquillity whilst close enough to the local amenities and places of interest.

Our stay at Campbell was perfect and we can't wait to go back. There are so many walks within easy access of Campbell with something to suit all abilities. We had our dog with us and loved the woodland walks just behind the cottage. Loved it as we walked through the door every need is catered for, comfortable relaxed feel with beautiful decor, comfy sofas and a fabulous wood burning stove which we enjoyed chilling in front of each evening.  Such a well equipped kitchen, there is everything you need for any occasion and such good quality, a real cooks paradise.
