Barrow Hollin Guest Reviews

We enjoyed a truly magical stay last week at Barrow Hollin. The cottage is beautiful and a credit to the owners with such a stunning property, fantastic accommodation and so beautifully presented with all the gorgeous little touches. Thank you we had a very special and much needed break despite torrential rain it was a perfect.
Emma & Richard

We enjoyed our stay at Barrow Hollin, lovely cottage but we loved the peace and quiet of the garden, we did not have many nice days to fully appreciate it but made the most of sitting out when we could. Loved all the different birds and mr and mrs pheasant (i will miss) came every morning to visit. The holiday was special for my 50th birthday and wedding anniversary. Hope, our springer aged 6 , enjoyed the walks and the garden .Thank you.
Tracey, John and Hope - Septemeber 2017

An idyllic location with fantastic walking all around and some great pubs for luch. Very little to disturb thepeace and quiet and luckily the sun shone for a while most days, which brightened everyting up. A wonderful relaxing break in an unspoilt area of the lakes

Barrow Hollin , what a wonderful gem of a house you are. Youre views are stunning , youre delightfully comfortable and you have possibly everything one needs for a relaxing stay. Youre pubs are brilliant and the surrounding villages and towns are lovely - we visited them all. Conistion lake was probaly the highlight of the trip, Monty our 4 year old taking charge of the boat we hired. thank you so much for such an amazing house . We would love to come back in winter and enjoy a roaring fire with a scotch. We dont have a dog but there is one on the way.....

Thank you for making our holiday amazing. This is the best holiday that I have ever had in my life !! this cottage is just amazing and it is so peaceful. My favourite room has to be the games room. i absolutely love the snooker room that I have used every day. The living room is really good too and thank you for making this possible.

So good to come back again (9.9.16) to celebrate our first anniversary, but for a total chill out for two weeks this time!
ted and Molly, the Patterdales loved the garden again. Molly loved it so much she went walk about on the first night but was found a couple of hours later under the snooker room. The walks and pubs are a se remembered , the Masons being the best especially after the walk to get there. Hope to be back again one day.

ps if you ride you must do the cumbrian heavy horses beach ride - awesome.
Anthony, lyn, Ted and Molly - August 2017

We've had a fabulous time here at barrow hollin. Found cartmel on the first morning and went back several times. Food at the cavendish Arms is excellent! Went to fell foot for swimming in lake Windermere, rowing boats across the lake quite a few times. Dined out at all the local establishments - all good. Lots of dog walks following the 'the dog walk guide book' found in the bookcase. Gummers How, really lovely with spectacular views , Wrynose p0ass and Hardnott pass well worth the drive for amazing views. The cottage is absolutely wonderful , so comfortable and perfect for relaxing - particularly in the Garden pod. Thank you very much, we'll be back|

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Barrow Hollin. When we arrived, the cottage looked and smelt lovely and clean.
The cottage is full of character, with wooden beams and flagstone floor, and the views are fantastic. This is a perfect base for exploring the Southern Lakes. We had a wonderful stay here, and our 2½ year old grandson keeps asking to go back!

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful cottage with us.We had an amazing week. It is our first time in the Lake District and it wont be our last. Our frenchie , Ruby also had a good time. She absolutely loved the garden and explored every nook and cranny. For inexperienced walkers like us, just a note. The walk to the Mason's arms takes longer then one and a half hours. It took us 4 hours!! admittedly with some detours!
best wishes.
Dav, Marlene plus Ruby June 2017

Fantastic cottage providing everything you may need as a holiday base. The views are unbelievable and the walks from the cottage were great for our dog Barney. Thank you to Kathryn who made us feel so welcome.
Best wishes, Lesley, Dave and family and Barney June 2017

First time in Cumbria and Barrow Hollin provided us with a wonderful house to explore. Some great walks in stunning countryside, highly recommend the Masons arms and L'Enclume if you are feeling plush!
Best wishes, Sarah and Gary June 2017

Thank you so much for looking after us at Barrow Hollin. We enjoyed our stay there very much and almost certainly will be back. As I said in the Visitors Book, the cottage has everything you need, for humans and canines! There is not one thing we thought of that we needed that was not there already. We will know to bring less with us next time.  I did not see the torch on the top shelf in the utility room until after the power cut! I definitely agree that the cottage is 5 Star and Gold Standard. The views from the bedroom are fabulous and the garden is perfect for the dogs. We could not have expected more.
Bill and Felicity Wass

At Barrow Hollin we went on lots of walks , ate lots of food and went to the Masons Arms alot for lovely spare ribs.

What a fab cottage! The care and detail that has been put into this cottage is truly amazing. such a delight to stay here. Thank you to Kathryn who is so kind and thoughtful. Really hope to return soon. Our spinger Poppy just loved the walks and felt right at home. Cottage is a credit to Simon and Sara.
Thank you, Sharon, Martin, Jonathon and Poppy March 2017

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. The cottage has rounded off our honeymoon perfectly, everything we wanted and more. The views of the fells were gorgeous especially with unexpected beautiful thick snow. The local pubs and the food they serve is spot on, the cottage itself was full of everything you could wish for. We have bought some of the diffusers in the hope of re creating the feelings of cosy nights. Kathryn has been super helpful and completely lovely which helped make our honeymoon most special. we are already planning our return trip for our  first anniversary (hopefully with a puppy)
Mr and Mrs Harrison Honeymoon March 2017

Whilst being sumptuous and tasteful, this cottage is also cosy, comfortable and calming. This Five Star Gold cottage exceeded the expectations of our group (4 friends and a giddy dog). I did not need to read my book, I was happy to sit and absorb the surroundings: so many interesting details in the building and in the thoughtful interior design. Thanks to Kathryn and the team: the place was spotless, including every kitchen drawer and implement (and I’m very fussy). This is so well equipped: we forgot tea bags: there were plenty ‘just incase'. Also milk, coffee, sugar, wine, preserves to greet us. Salt and pepper, foil, washing up liquid, dish cloths, tea towel, all those ‘little’ things. The boot room is packed with useful items e.g. flasks, bowls, jugs, trays, torches, matches, clothes airer, too many things to list - the challenge is if anyone stays and CANT find something they need during their stay!. The champagne and wine glasses are sturdy so take your own if you like a thin rim. Also plenty of beer / water glasses. Hand wash and moisturiser and hand towels at every sink. Plenty of loo rolls! Even shower gel, bath oils, big soft bath towels, hand towels and dressing gowns. Brilliant shower over the bath. The sheets on the beds were beautifully smooth (from The White Company): I didn’t need to use my own pillow case (told you I’m fussy). Anyone with a sensitive nose may like to ask Kathryn in advance to remove some of the lovely reed diffusers. A thoughtful movement sensitive night light at top of the stairs. Radio in every room including mini Bose downstairs with bluetooth link. A selection of phone/tablet chargers incase you forget yours. Brilliant snooker/pool room, magnetic darts and board games. Gorgeous, well maintained garden with bird feeders to watch. Outside hose to wash muddy boots and dog. Wonderful views.
Thank you to the owners for allowing dogs to stay in this fabulous cottage: and if anyone is worried about this: you would not know, the whole place is so well maintained, cared for and spotless. This is now my top cottage for cottages that sleep more than two (equal billing with the top one for two people). We all hope to come back and to stay longer.

We have had a really memorable week in this special place. the cottage has been such a lovely home for our holiday, truly comfortable, warm and inviting . We have appreciated all the little touches such as hair dryers in each room, the robes, super equipped kitchen , toiletries and beautifully smelling bedrooms. the garden has been a pleasure to looik at even in a rainy winter. Enjoyed meals at the Masons, the walk to the reservoir, pottering around Cartmel and cards in the evening infront of the log burner. thank you for everything.
The Jamieron and Siekierski families - Feb half term 2017

What a fantastic cottage!
We have never been somewhere so well equipped - you have thought of everything and more.... A weekend was never going to be long enough to play pool, darts all the board games and do all the walks we had planned!! We will just have to come back for longer.. Thank you all so much . It has been amazing to find such a quality cottage  that is so dog friendly - Iona , our dog was most qppreciative. thank you |

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The best cottage we have stayed in, in the Lakes. The view first thing in the morning of the snow topped mountains and a frosty fell as the sun came up was simply stunning.

February 2016

The most relaxing five days we have had in a while. A truly beautiful cottage in an idyllic location. We have enjoyed peaceful evenings by the fire and sampled the local pubs including the Crown and Mason Arms. The cottage is even more beautiful in the snow, a perfect way to spend my birthday weekend! We spent many hours getting lost in the snow, very difficult to fine the paths. Really recommend the Drucken Duck pub near Ambleside, very cosy with delicious beers. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Thank you for such a lovely cottage. Trisha, David, (Jack & Gwen – Collies) - July 2015
What an amazing place! It certainly is 5 Star rating!  One of our personal favourites was the unreal garden seat – a lovely place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. We did the Gummers How walk – would recommend for great views of Lake Windermere. We also had a ramer over competitive game of mini golf… The kitchen is fantastic and well equipped and we made full use of it cooking lots of yummy food! We went for dinner at the Hare & Hound which we would highly recommend. We also enjoyed more competitive rounds of darts and pool in the Games Room – a fab edition to the house.
Log burner, blanket and Netflix are perfect ingredients for a cosy night in.
Thanks so much for a wonderful stay. Kate & Declan – June 2015

Had a lovely stay in a lovely house that's well equipped and well thought out. Views are fantastic and so is the sound of silence. The rooms and décor were perfect in a house of this style , the real fire was cosy. We visited Roa Island, the top of Hard Knott and Wrynose Pass, sailed across Windermere & loved watching all the different birds at the bird table while having breakfast. Its been the perfect break & in the perfect retreat!
