Our guide to towna and villages

Towns and Villages

The many towns and villages of the Lake District offer visitors a wide variety of attractions, entertainment and shopping, along with fine dining at the many cafes, restaurants and inns, including three with a Michelin star. Local produce has become very much the in-thing, and our Cumbrian farmers and producers offer some of the best, ranging from specialist meats, preserves, cheeses, artisan breads and locally brewed ales, along with clothing, glasswear and pottery to name just a few.

There is a vibrant arts and cultural scene throughout the county with art galleries, theatre and cinema, where we attract some of the biggest stars in music, stand up and stage.
