Lying at the heart of Cartmel, this pair of properties offers couples a nourishing mix of seclusion and community. Two separate buildings, separated by a small courtyard, this pairing is as diverse as the corner of Cumbria in which it resides. And while this contemporary loft and quirky village lock-up may be thoroughly different, they both share access to one of the most culturally rich villages in the entire Lake District.

If modern comforts are essential, Wharton Loft will suit. Step inside and discover a generous entrance hall, then slip off your muddy walking boots and head upstairs to the open-plan kitchen and living area. Beautifully furnished and with a stylish dining area, it's the perfect place to all convene together. But just a short walk across the courtyard, Cartmel Jail offers a wonderful alternative. This former village lock-up has been lovingly converted into an intimate hideaway and while it doesn't contain a kitchen or living space, it's a great option for seclusion seekers. Inside its listed walls lies a characterful hallway with a wet room and storage space. Then climb the narrow staircase and discover a four-poster double bedroom complete with Smart TV and Sonos soundbar. Or why not all gather together in the charming courtyard for a spot of stargazing?

Whichever property you choose, your whole party can discover the serene village of Cartmel. Enjoy stream-side strolls or roam the cobbled streets and find a wonderful array of independent eateries. Michelin stars aren't hard to come by thanks to Cartmel's two renowned restaurants. For a picturesque day out, Lake Windermere is only 7 miles away but, if you prefer to avoid the crowds, visit the historic Holker Hall (2.5 miles). Its majestic gardens are open from March to November.

Wharton House Mews is perfectly placed to explore the picturesque village of Cartmel , only recently renovated to the highest of standards and thoughtfully equipped. When rented together with the old jail the property works well for a two generation family holiday.

Adventure, memories and awe-inspiring natural beauty await you in the rugged, wild and unique Cumbrian Lake District where beautiful expanses of water merge with magical forests against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and fells.

This ancient land has been sculpted by time and nature and is the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first UK National Park to be awarded this outstanding accolade. Poets, writers and artists throughout the ages have been instinctively drawn here; William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin, to name a few. The attractions and the diverse landscape will not fail to charm the young and the young at heart, whether that be thrill-seeking activities you seek, pure and cathartic inspiration or simply just some relaxation, you will find it here.

Cycling, walking, canoeing, white-water rafting, flying, parachuting and ballooning are just some of the offerings for any level of adrenalin junky. Experience the glory of nature in the wild or in a setting such as the Predator Experience where you can walk with wolves and learn about the importance of conservation. For a complete day of family, enjoy treetop capers at Go-Ape in the Grizedale Forest.

Vibrant towns and villages are there to be discovered, be it by land or water. You can step back in time and enjoy a steamboat cruise on a lake or leisurely unearth the dynamic scene of contemporary art, culture and some of the best dining in the UK by foot, bus or car.

The National Park is an area of breath-taking beauty that will leave you spoilt for choice, refuelled and inspired. So much so that you’ll want to come back time and time again.
