Ideally situated on the outskirts of the cheerful South Cumbria village of Urswick, this picturesque cottage offers warm and cosy holiday accommodation perfect for couples and families. Offering ample space for four guests, this is a great base for exploring the Furness Peninsula. Full of character, this beautifully furnished getaway retains plenty of original features including traditional exposed beams and stone tiling. This is a wonderful retreat for keen walkers, cyclists, nature lovers, golfers and photographers, located in a delightful spot between Barrow-in-Furness and the southern edge of the Lake District.

Entering this beautiful old property which dates back to 1658, the ground floor comprises an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with traditional oak beams helping to make this a welcoming living space. With plenty of seating including a quaint window seat, plus a warming wood burner and Smart TV, the lounge is an ideal space to unwind in. The fully equipped Lakeland-style kitchen/diner has mosaic tiling and oak worktops. There’s also a perfect spot for your four-legged friends underneath the window. Upstairs, the first floor offers a fresh and relaxing double bedroom and an invigorating bathroom complete with a lovely roll-top bath and separate shower. Further stairs lead into the second-floor king-size bedroom which features impressive oak beams in its sloping ceiling. The pretty garden has plenty of outdoor furniture and a stone-built BBQ on the raised decked area.

Just a mile from Urswick Tarn, the cottage is in a delightful village with a choice of great places to eat and drink. Nearby Ulverston (4 miles) is home to the popular Laurel and Hardy Museum. A haven for nature lovers, local attractions include the Birkrigg Stone Circle, South Lakes Safari Zoo and Furness Abbey (all within 5 miles). The southern edge of the Lake District is less than 10 miles away.

Loved the log burner, comfy bed and underfloor heating. Really helpful owner who left wine, chocolates, milk and doggy treats for us.

We stayed for new year and found it well located for lakes/coastal exploring. Fire and underfloor heating were very cosy after a day of walking. We did expect an enclosed garden for the dog/ children however it seemed to be a shared driveway with a gate that remained open onto a main road and wasnt very private. I think if we knew this we may of chRead moreosen somewhere else and wouldnt describe it as suitable for families with small children or dogs that cant be off lead. Hide

This was a lovely little cottage and beautiful mature gardens with enclosed garden for the dog. Host was lovely fave good suggestions where to walk our dog. Well equity to a high standard

We enjoyed our stay and the welcome pack for humans and our dog was much appreciated. Lots of lovely places to visit without travelling too far. We would have liked to spend some time in the garden but my autistic grandson struggles with noise and the village wasn't as quiet as we had hoped it would be

We had a delightful family holiday in this charming, recently refurbished cottage, with comfy beds. Its lovely to have access to such a big private enclosed garden and have off-road parking. Youre just 15-20 mins from Lake Windermere and can easily explore the Lakes from Little Urswick. Roanhead Beach is fab, Mr Darcy, our dog loved it there!! BreaRead morethtaking scenery and lucky to have access to the Lakes and the coast in this location. Ulverston is also worth visiting, home of Laurel & Hardy :-) Hide

A great property, super clean. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Stocked well with coffee, tea, sugar and milk. The log burner was also most welcome. Well Head is a fantastic cottage, perfectly situated between the estuary and the lakes of Coniston and Windermere. The cottage itself is very well equipped and spotlessly clean, beds very comfortable and a large, modern bathroom.

Fantastic location . Cottage beautiful place to stay, so clean and everything you need it has been made very welcoming. Well Head is lovely. Everything in the cottage has been done to a high standard, it was super clean and the cottage is well equipped. Great location for exploring the peninsula and the South Lakes and the owner Tom, who is just next door, has great recommendations for good local dog walks.

We have stopped in the Lake District many times but first time in this area and will certainly come back due to the proximity of the South Lakes but without the crowds. The Cottage is excellent and Tom,the owner,was very helpful in his suggestions for meals and visits in the area. A lovely property with lots of period character. Excellent living accommodation and spacious bathroom with large walk-in shower. Plenty of hot water. The cottage was excellent, very quiet, great beds and facilities and tom and bruce (the dog) were great. Highly recommended and great base for scenic walks. Nice gated off area for our dogs to roam and play with bruce. Tom has done a great deal of work on what is an excellent comfy stay and very helpful.
