Occupying a stunning spot along the eastern fringe of the Lake District, this stylishly designed reverse-level property makes a tranquil retreat for six guests. Providing spacious, cosy and relaxing accommodation for keen walkers, photographers and nature lovers exploring this spellbinding region, the cottage is a great holiday base for discovering the Cumbria coastline, and is within reach of several stunning lakes.

Entering this fresh, light and welcoming property, the ground floor features the first two bedrooms, which are decorated in light relaxing pastel shades: there’s a pretty double room with French doors opening onto the garden, and an en-suite twin room. The family bathroom is also on the ground floor, while the final bedroom, a charming en-suite double room is on the first floor. Also upstairs is the refreshing and cheerful open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. With a cosy wood burner, Smart TV and plenty of seating, the lounge is a lovely space for relaxation at the end of a fabulous day. The kitchen has a range of useful equipment so you can rustle up all your family favourites and enjoy a hearty meal around the country-style dining table. Bi-fold doors lead out from the lounge and onto a balcony with a small private patio which makes a lovely spot for dining alfresco.

The quaint village of Ennerdale Bridge has a choice of great pubs, shops and cafes, and is close to the most westerly of the lakes, Ennerdale Water (1.5 miles). Also within easy reach are Loweswater, Wast Water, Buttermere and Crummock Water (all within 15 miles), with opportunities for a range of water sports, bike trails and walks. Just 10 miles to the west, the St Bees Head Heritage Coast is home to a major RSPB reserve with chances to spot guillemots and razorbills.

This is a lovely property, well presented, spotlessly clean, well equipped (sharp kitchen knives - a real rarity in rental properties!) and in a fabulous situation both scenically and in respect of its closeness to a super village shop / cafe and excellent pub. We had a very comfortable 2 week stay. The owners were approachable, helpful and found aRead more solution when the washing machine broke down. Hide

Really lovely quiet location, if you want a less commercialised stay in the lakes this is for you! Ennerdale Water was stunning, really enjoyed our stay. Property has everything you need for a group, with the advantage of a bathroom per bedroom.

We absolutely loved our stay at Thornside. The house was beautiful with gorgeous quiet views across fields at the back of the house. We were lucky enough to be there the week of the heatwave so sitting out on the balcony ever day felt like a holiday in itself!

This was the perfect holiday for us. The accomodation was just perfect. With everything we needed. Comfortable, clean. It has amazing views from the balcony and in a fabulous location, with a coffee shop and small shop next door and a pub down the road.
