Elevated above the gentle River Rothay, this gorgeous apartment is brimming with charm and has all the trappings of a quintessential staycation. The property is studded within the chocolate-box village of Grasmere, a destination adored by former resident William Wordsworth, but equally as famous for the iconic gingerbread made to a special secret recipe. Set over two floors and sleeping four guests in comfort, this pretty retreat is ideal for those keen to experience the spectacular landscape of the Lake District National Park. The owners have even included a thoughtful welcome pack to kick start your holiday with a few goodies.

Climb the oak-framed staircase and marvel at the riverside views before you step inside, shrugging off your coats and embracing the welcoming warmth of the kitchen/diner. Finished in an appealing country-cottage-style, you’ll be sorely tempted to put the gadgets and dining space to good use with hearty lunches and simple suppers. Curl up on the sofas with a well-deserved mug of hot chocolate in the lounge, or light the candles and clink glasses of something fizzy and delicious on the decked balcony. Upstairs, two pretty bedrooms await the weary traveller, offering a cosy haven for peaceful slumber after a relaxing soak in the bathroom.

Discover the enchanting streets of Grasmere from your doorstep, exploring the iconic Dove Cottage of Wordsworth fame, and investigating the wealth of independent shops, tearooms and eateries tucked within the sleepy village. Experience the romantic wilderness of the surrounding countryside, or venture to nearby Ambleside, 4.5 miles away, to try your hand at a variety of water sports on Lake Windermere. There are boat trips across the water to Bowness-on-Windermere and Lakeside Pier as well as circular cruises to enjoy, so why not pack a picnic and discover somewhere new?

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Fantastic location in wonderful Grasmere overlooking the river. Fairly spacious cottage for a family of 4, but would benefit from some modernisation inside.

Position within the village was excellent being very central and at the same time being insulated from outside noise. The accommodation provided plenty of space and was reasonably comfortable, however the overall impression was that the interior was a little tired and in need of some TLC.

This property was in a wonderful location which meant we were able to walk from the door and leave the car at home. The rooms were really spacious and having two bathrooms was a real luxury!

The highlight of this flat is the location. It is so central, and the fact it has parking is so useful when Grasmere is busy. The flat is more like a house and much bigger than expected. The owners left useful things like dishwasher tablets and washing tablets which were very thoughtful. The flat was a bit chilly so we needed the heating due to theRead more single glazing. Beware if you have mobility issues, the access is up some steep stairs, which are not lit up at night. Hide

There is basic comfort, facilities and fittings and could do with a refurbishment . Poor lighting for mirrors and readIng - except in kitchen area. Take your own shower gel etc. Best feature is location in centre of village.

Adventure, memories and awe-inspiring natural beauty await you in the rugged, wild and unique Cumbrian Lake District where beautiful expanses of water merge with magical forests against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and fells.

This ancient land has been sculpted by time and nature and is the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first UK National Park to be awarded this outstanding accolade. Poets, writers and artists throughout the ages have been instinctively drawn here; William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin, to name a few. The attractions and the diverse landscape will not fail to charm the young and the young at heart, whether that be thrill-seeking activities you seek, pure and cathartic inspiration or simply just some relaxation, you will find it here.

Cycling, walking, canoeing, white-water rafting, flying, parachuting and ballooning are just some of the offerings for any level of adrenalin junky. Experience the glory of nature in the wild or in a setting such as the Predator Experience where you can walk with wolves and learn about the importance of conservation. For a complete day of family, enjoy treetop capers at Go-Ape in the Grizedale Forest.

Vibrant towns and villages are there to be discovered, be it by land or water. You can step back in time and enjoy a steamboat cruise on a lake or leisurely unearth the dynamic scene of contemporary art, culture and some of the best dining in the UK by foot, bus or car.

The National Park is an area of breath-taking beauty that will leave you spoilt for choice, refuelled and inspired. So much so that you’ll want to come back time and time again.
