In the heart of Matterdale in the Lake District National Park, this remarkable converted barn offers a large family or group of friends contemporary living, an abundance of space and breathtaking views. Situated only one mile from Aira Force Waterfall and a few miles from Ullswater, some would argue you have the best of the Lakes on your doorstep. Keen walkers will be spoiled for choice, whilst outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy mountain biking, climbing and kayaking nearby. Spend your evenings soaking up the tranquillity and watching the sun set.

Sympathetically renovated with contemporary guests in mind, this property capitalises on its surroundings with floor-to-ceiling windows and dual aspect rooms throughout. Whilst the lounge is cosy with a wood burner for colder evenings, the kitchen feels bright and airy with everything you’ll need to cook up some treats. Adjacent to this, the dining area has plenty of space for everyone and offers gorgeous views of the fells. A wet room and utility area complete the ground floor. Upstairs, there are three spacious bedrooms (two king-size and one bunk room), one en-suite bathroom and a family bathroom – all finished to an impeccable standard. Outside, there is a lovely patio area with a BBQ for al fresco dining.

Aira Force (1 mile) offers a range of woodland paths that allow you to appreciate the beauty and force of the waterfalls. A little further away is Ullswater (4 miles), where you can enjoy a picturesque trip on a steamer. For an action-packed day, head to Whinlatter Forest Park (17.5 miles) which has a range of activities for all ages/abilities, or for something more leisurely, take a stroll around the independent shops and eateries in Pooley Bridge, Keswick or Penrith (all within 12 miles).

Beautifully restored and contemporary barn conversion. Modern and plenty of room for six. Downstairs flows from room to room with fabulous views from the full height windows. Extremely comfy beds, very well equipped kitchen, excellent utility area for muddy boots and wet coats. Underfloor heating. Beautiful, tranquil position and a short walk from Read morehotel at Dockray. Easy to reach Keswick or Penrith and very well placed for exploring the North Lakes. Hope to come back in the summer! We really enjoyed our stay. Absolutely fantastic location with beautiful views. Great base to explore the area. Very cosy living/kitchen area but with plenty of space. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful relaxing week at Hollows. The house is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Absolutely loved our stay at Hollows and would re-visit again at the drop of a hat. Beautiful location and was so restful to start the day staring out at the fells. The house is beautifully appointed and feels luxurious but homely. Loved it so much we extended our stay by a couple of nights.

An amazing cottage with everything you need. Remote enough to feel like you are at one with nature but close enough to towns and amenities should you need them. This was an ideal spot for a young family over the Christmas period. We watched Red Squirrels playing from the kitchen, dinning room and bedroom. With beautiful views from every window, Hollows is a lovely property in a great part of the Lake District. Blessed with good weather we walked, swam and enjoyed local pub gardens and cafe terraces. We were enjoying our stay so much, we extended it by an extra two nights. We hope to return, so many walks still to do!

We had a lovely holiday and The Hollows was a great base to explore Ullswater, an area of the lakes we had not visited properly before. This is a wonderful accomodation in excellent surroundings. Modern, comfortable and well equipped with new appliances. The big glass panels on the walls allow the landscape to be enjoyed from the inside in all weathers. And, yes, we saw the owl and the rabbits every evening! The binoculars we brought with us came handy.

We had a lovely week at the Hollows. This is an exceptionally beautiful house, well organised and modern; very comfortable and welcoming and warm. The views are really really amazing and we were on the doorstep to long lovely walks. I would wholeheartedly recommend this house if you are looking for a quieter but amazing spot. This is one of the best cottages Ive rented , spacious beautifully appointed fabulous location with stunning views, super quiet up a short lane. I could have spent the day gazing out floor to ceiling windows and been happy . However too many hikes to be done all local .
