Cartmel is home to an impressive 12th century priory as well as its own racecourse which hosts a range of events throughout the year. Close to Grizedale Forest, and a short drive from the Ambleside, Grasmere, Coniston and Ulverston, this is a perfect base to explore some of the hidden treasures of the Lake District. Set out on foot to one of the many walking routes in the area, which take in Hampsfell and Eggerslack Wood and the Lake District Mountains. Or why not rest your feet and hop on the Lake Windermere steamer, which winds its way for ten miles into the central fells, passing Bowness and Sawrey along the way.

Through the front door into the sumptuous open-plan lounge/kitchen with large bi-folding doors out to the patio. The bespoke kitchen area is well-equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and microwave. Here you can enjoy romantic meals on the spacious breakfast bar and plan the following day, before settling down in the lounge area to watch a film on the TV/DVD in front of the flame effect electric fire on chillier evenings. Heading out of this room upstairs you will find a spacious king-size and double bedroom, and a state-of-the-art bathroom with designer bath and separate shower.

Location

Adventure, memories and awe-inspiring natural beauty await you in the rugged, wild and unique Cumbrian Lake District where beautiful expanses of water merge with magical forests against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and fells.

This ancient land has been sculpted by time and nature and is the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first UK National Park to be awarded this outstanding accolade. Poets, writers and artists throughout the ages have been instinctively drawn here; William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin, to name a few. The attractions and the diverse landscape will not fail to charm the young and the young at heart, whether that be thrill-seeking activities you seek, pure and cathartic inspiration or simply just some relaxation, you will find it here.

Cycling, walking, canoeing, white-water rafting, flying, parachuting and ballooning are just some of the offerings for any level of adrenalin junky. Experience the glory of nature in the wild or in a setting such as the Predator Experience where you can walk with wolves and learn about the importance of conservation. For a complete day of family, enjoy treetop capers at Go-Ape in the Grizedale Forest.

Vibrant towns and villages are there to be discovered, be it by land or water. You can step back in time and enjoy a steamboat cruise on a lake or leisurely unearth the dynamic scene of contemporary art, culture and some of the best dining in the UK by foot, bus or car.

The National Park is an area of breath-taking beauty that will leave you spoilt for choice, refuelled and inspired. So much so that you’ll want to come back time and time again.
