This romantic retreat for two, in the picturesque village of Melmerby, is full of character and boasts glorious views. The area is a haven for walkers and cyclists, with the popular Hartside Pass route starting in the village and numerous fell walks nearby. The majestic Ullswater is just 17.5 miles from the property, where you can enjoy peaceful waterside strolls and cruises on the lake. Alternatively, the bustling market town of Penrith (9 miles), with its cute eateries and independent boutiques, makes a wonderful day out.

This beautiful bolthole really is quite spectacular. The gorgeous lounge has vaulted ceilings and exposed beams and stonework. Snuggle up together on the stylish sofa, warming your toes in front of the wood burner and watching your favourite film on the Smart TV. Cooking in the country cottage-style kitchen is a true delight. The characterful area is full of quirky touches and has everything you need to rustle up a romantic dinner for two. The property’s piece de resistance, however, must be the sunroom. With floor-to-ceiling windows framing stunning views of the surrounding fells, it’s a wonderfully peaceful place to enjoy breakfast together or curl up with a good book. Outside, dine alfresco on the patio or unwind in the private hot tub, taking in the spectacular scenery.

A visit to this part of the country wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Ullswater, which is often described as England’s most beautiful lake. Be enchanted by the jaw-dropping scenery and the host of golden daffodils that once inspired Wordsworth to write his famous poem. Board one of the iconic steamers to get a truly unique perspective of the lake and hop on and off at various points to enjoy a relaxing wander along the Ullswater Way that circumnavigates the lake.

Mary and Graham couldnt have been more welcoming. The cottage location and views were perfect. Being able to look at the fields and hills and enjoy watching the llamas and animals was so relaxing. Loved the hot tub. Thanks for a great stay!

We had a fabulous stay at this amazing cottage. Everything about it was superb: location , great hosts, scenery , hot tub and OF COURSE the lovely Llamas. Great pub and bakery/cafe within walking distance, too. This cottage is the perfect base for exploring the area - cant recommend it highly enough!

Adventure, memories and awe-inspiring natural beauty await you in the rugged, wild and unique Cumbrian Lake District where beautiful expanses of water merge with magical forests against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and fells.

This ancient land has been sculpted by time and nature and is the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first UK National Park to be awarded this outstanding accolade. Poets, writers and artists throughout the ages have been instinctively drawn here; William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin, to name a few. The attractions and the diverse landscape will not fail to charm the young and the young at heart, whether that be thrill-seeking activities you seek, pure and cathartic inspiration or simply just some relaxation, you will find it here.

Cycling, walking, canoeing, white-water rafting, flying, parachuting and ballooning are just some of the offerings for any level of adrenalin junky. Experience the glory of nature in the wild or in a setting such as the Predator Experience where you can walk with wolves and learn about the importance of conservation. For a complete day of family, enjoy treetop capers at Go-Ape in the Grizedale Forest.

Vibrant towns and villages are there to be discovered, be it by land or water. You can step back in time and enjoy a steamboat cruise on a lake or leisurely unearth the dynamic scene of contemporary art, culture and some of the best dining in the UK by foot, bus or car.

The National Park is an area of breath-taking beauty that will leave you spoilt for choice, refuelled and inspired. So much so that you’ll want to come back time and time again.
