Nearby you'll find Cartmel Racecourse which is home to the UK’s shortest steeplechase and has a full diary of interesting events when there are no race meetings. Further afield, the seaside resort of Grange-over-Sands is a lovely place to spend the day exploring the attractions on the town’s promenade and is only a short drive away. Also within easy reach are the popular destinations of Ambleside, Grasmere, Coniston and Ulverston, making this cottage the perfect base from which to explore some of the treasures of the Lake District.

This beautiful country house will feel like a home away from home as soon as you walk in the door. The lounge boats comfort and tranquillity with two sofas along with a Smart TV to enjoy a family movie in front of the wood burner. The kitchen/diner is the main focal point of the house, where you will spend all your time, with bifold doors to the patio that allow the room to enjoy the best of both worlds. Here you can create a family feast and enjoy it at the dining table, plus there's another wood burner to add to the ambience on chillier winter evenings. There is also an electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher. Heading up to the first floor, you will find the master bedroom with a king-size bed, a shower room with a shower and WC, and a twin bedroom.

Outside, there is a patio area with a charcoal BBQ, perfect for dining alfresco, with seating to enjoy views of the falls behind. Stayed early August '21. Comfy. High standard of finish: Large, thick curtains kept out the light and, I imagine, warm the house in the Winter. We didn't use the wood-burners, obviously. Back yard a plus. Fantastic stone floors. Cosy lounge. Very recently furnished I would say (Weber BBQ unused.) Well sized for 4. Great location. Look out for the pRead moreizza van outside the Pig & Whistle on Wednesday. Hide

Adventure, memories and awe-inspiring natural beauty await you in the rugged, wild and unique Cumbrian Lake District where beautiful expanses of water merge with magical forests against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and fells.

This ancient land has been sculpted by time and nature and is the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first UK National Park to be awarded this outstanding accolade. Poets, writers and artists throughout the ages have been instinctively drawn here; William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin, to name a few. The attractions and the diverse landscape will not fail to charm the young and the young at heart, whether that be thrill-seeking activities you seek, pure and cathartic inspiration or simply just some relaxation, you will find it here.

Cycling, walking, canoeing, white-water rafting, flying, parachuting and ballooning are just some of the offerings for any level of adrenalin junky. Experience the glory of nature in the wild or in a setting such as the Predator Experience where you can walk with wolves and learn about the importance of conservation. For a complete day of family, enjoy treetop capers at Go-Ape in the Grizedale Forest.

Vibrant towns and villages are there to be discovered, be it by land or water. You can step back in time and enjoy a steamboat cruise on a lake or leisurely unearth the dynamic scene of contemporary art, culture and some of the best dining in the UK by foot, bus or car.

The National Park is an area of breath-taking beauty that will leave you spoilt for choice, refuelled and inspired. So much so that you’ll want to come back time and time again.
